Quantum of Solace sinks in the ocean of uninspired first-person shooters.
Quantum of solace (Qos) unlike few good FPS today bring us nothing new or original. It must've been hard for them to come up with a selling point other than protagonist being James Bond for this game. I watched an interview with one of the designers. I wasn't listening much but he was talking about the big selling point being the guns. I really doubt the guns would make a great selling point to a FPS. Ironically enough guns are really the main problem of this game. Every gun is accurate as hell and I mean every gun. You could easily beat the game on default difficulty setting with a single handgun. I recall on how I was sniping soldiers with my shotgun in the middle of the first level. Shotgun is a pretty much a 1 hit kill from point blank but it also seems to be like that at any point. I was literally shooting enemies across the room with my shotgun. Enemies are pretty retarded as they don't utilize any tactics other than a simple flanking which works rarely because they die easily. Headshot is an instant death to them and it is laughably easy to score them. QTE are lame. Time slows down, a target appears. Anyone with a brain cell would understand that you're supposed to click on the target. It's an interesting take on QTE on PC but still is not as good. There are some stealthy parts in missions but the usually involve sneaking around 1 or 2 guys and evading cameras. You don't really have to sneak as the only thing that happens is that a bunch of guards come out and try to shoot you. As I mentioned before their armor is made of rice paper so it shouldn't be a problem mowing through them. Also guns have barely any recoil.
The cover system works okay but they shouldn't show a crosshair when I'm pushed against my cover. It just make blind firing way too easy as I was blind firing headshotting guys across a room and no I'm not kidding. Why make it so easy. It's called blind firing for a reason.
I've already written so much and I still haven't talked about good things in this game. Graphics look nice. Story on the other hand is weird its basically Qos's story with flashbacks of Casino Royale. Gameplay is OK. Although one thing baffled me. The lack of blood. Enemies must have been donating in free time or are really made of rock because they don't bleed ever. This makes the game look goofy. Were they trying to make it so that this could lower the rating and hope to sell it to younger audiences? That's my guess. Although I see no point. Action sequences are great and soundtrack is not bad either. Single player campaign ends fast.
Final verdict: If you really want to play this game or you are just curious - rent it at best. Single player is over quickly there isn't much fun in it either. Lack of challange. Qos doesn't bring anything new or original or remotely good to the giant sprawling sea of FPSs. It's mediocre at best. If you are a Bond fan you better should see the movie but I guess you already have seen it.
