1080 Avanlanche - I feel to be one of the most misunderstood and underappreciated games of 2003/2004. I bought the game even though the reviews adivised me otherwise, and I found it to be the complete opposite of what the reviews had described it as. Now, I do recognise the games flaws in the reviews eyes, but for me, the problems are non-existent when I playing the game. The game is obviously set in a snow retreat, a group of mountains offer a number of courses and hidden routes to the bottem for your snowboarders to race downward on, with a number of twists. The first thing I would like to mention is the environment, the mountains are teeming with life, from wildlife to dense forests, and the weather factor; which ends up playing a big significance in the later courses. When the later matches (classifield in Expert and Extreme modes, mainly) are unlocked, you'll be challenged by an Avalanche course, where you'll obviouly be chased downhill by an eruption of snow and ice, hurtling menacingly toward you as you avoid obstacles and perform jumps while watching the meter at the top of the screen to see how close to 'danger' (death) you are, and constantly looking over to your map to see how much of the course has been engulfed by snow; its a real rush and a unique feature from any of the other snowboarding games. The visuals are impressive, the most realistic environments and snow you're likely to find, even though with the likes of SSX 3, you are told different, but it is clear that 1080 (2) is the most impressive snowboarding game (visually) that there is. The music must be based on opinion, I found half the tracks to be quite good, even great, while others only encourage suicide. The Gameplay improves as you do, if you act like a moron with the controller, the game will respond in the same way, with a little time you'll be performing front-flipping rockets and 360 grabs off of mountains in no time at all. It is quite surprising how much the gameplay changes based on your own skills at the game, and it is clear through the results you get at the end of any level, showing in your points or time. Overall I found the game to be misunderstood, it is different from the original and even though I was a big fan of 1080 on the N64, I favour this instalment more, so rent it and then buy, otherwise go for SSX 3, which concentrates on over the top tricks and unrealistic course with no sense of decency for the sport, 1080 Avalanche has respect for the sport and picks up on what the gamer may be looking for in a snowboarding game; fast, but realistic gameplay, gorgeous environments and amazing graphics, good sound and tunes, and some great new features! In my opinion this game should be based on the gamers response, to Gamespot, not a very good attempt of a sequel to the N64 hit, but for me, a fresh and addictive game.
Lets see here i have to do this fast Gameplay-Too short if you ask me and probbley half of you would agree Music-Nice tunes to suit the game Graphic-Well i dunno what to say here. But some of the stuff goes thro... Read Full Review
