8 eyes has some creative and innovative game play, as well as some classic NES controller flinging frustration. The innovation starts with the pet bird on your shoulder which you can command. The bird is needed throughout the game to open doors by pushing otherwise out-of-reach buttons for our hero. He also helps the hero find various power-ups hidden within the walls. However, the bird is not very easy to control while playing the one-player game, and his flight motion across the screen takes a lot of time when you are trying to hit a precise point. When the bird discovers a power-up in the wall, it take 3 hits before the power-up is aquired. It should really be two at the most. If you are playing a two-player game much of that frustration would be reduced, as the second player has full control of the bird as opposed to just being able to tell it when to dive along a predetermined route. The most frustating part of this game would have to be the levels of Africa and Germany which are both mazes. As I was pushing through the Africa level getting lost and also very tired of killing or running from the same ever re-spawning enemies, I asked myself if it was worth it? Was I having fun? Ultimately I had to say 'no', which is also my assentment of this game. No.
