This a charming game that evokes memories of a more innocent time. Perfect for kids and parents to play together
Unlike most kid games and toys these days there's nothing flashy or overly exciting here. As far as kid fare goes you can feel pretty safe that your tyke won't collapse from a seizure. If this game were a physical toy it would be more along the lines of a wooden rocking horse.
Game play is VERY easy. "Dying" is almost a non-issue as checkpoints are literally everywhere. The puzzles do get progressively harder but they're never over the top. What's more is the game does an excellent job of training even the most inexperienced player to be successful. Other more serious games could take a lesson from "Blob" on how to teach the player controls and techniques without a tutorial or training system.
The relationship between the boy and the blob is endearing. Without much dialogue the player gets the immediate sense of warmth and friendship. While I'm not a child myself, it was nice to take a break from more gritty games and retreat to a simpler time. I don't know that I'll ever play it again, but it is something I'll keep around for my children and nieces and nephews (when they're old enough to not drool on the wiimote).
A Boy and His Blob is a worthy third-party game for the Nintendo Wii and I recommend it for anyone who wants to play with their kids.
