Ace Combat Assault Horizon, a Good game, with some very overused features, that could have been quite good.
First of all, the Good parts of Ace Combat Assault Horizon.
-ASM (Air Strike Mode). I can't tell you how many times in Ace Combat the Unsung War, I wanted a close up of the ship that I was destroying, and to feel more like I was taking part in an actual Bombing run. and ASM was that calling. this was one of my most favorite Ace Combat Features.
-The Graphics, having superb detail on aircraft, and able to see almost every decal and curve to the aircraft perfectly, it ads realism to the game.
-DFM (Dog Fight Mode).... now wait, wait, there is only one part of it that I like. the close up combat action witch allows you to actually identify the enemy planes with your eyes perfectly, and brings you detail of the plane being ripped to pieces in front of you eyes, instead of 5000 meters away from the aircraft.
Now, the bad parts of Ace Combat Assault Horizon.
-The Story (and character development.). ever since the last game, I have been constantly disappointed with the character development, with hardly any player controlled contact between you and your wing men, you are unable to develop a deep character attachment, and are unable to enjoy the true emotion of said story. I often compare character development in Ace Combat, to the Unsung war. sure Blaze didn't talk, and you answered in yes, or no answers, these choices, allowed you to experience your wing men personality, in a different way, making it even more interesting.
-DFM (it was bound to Pop up) DFM was a great idea. its to bad it became mandatory throughout the game, and that it was broken. don't believe me? go on the hardest difficulty, and play the game. chose the fastest unlocked aircraft you have, and play a mission. the fly at your top speed, and fly around the map. an enemy will pop up, at its lowest speed, and it will activate DFM on you, and already be matched at your speed, even if that speed is impossible for that aircraft. that's not all, brake and stall the aircraft in third person view. the plane will be put further behind you in order to stay on your tail. instead of flying by you.
-The Helicopter missions being mandatory. I'll be honest, I hate helicopters, they are man made steel hover deathtraps, and not what I play ace combat for, (sure there are pros and cons of the helicopters, but I'd rather not get involved.)
Summary:
-The game is good, but broken in the DFM asset.
-The Story needs way more character development.
-The Helicopter missions should have been optional, just like in the demo, where you could chose a vehicle type Mission.
I am aware that I have missed a lot of pros and cons of the game, but I just wanted to get the basics off my chest.
I would recommend this game to people who are interested in Avionics, but not hardcore fans of Ace Combat, unless they love helicopters.
