A tired and played out game engine, a story that is not memorable in the least. Yet we still keep playing.

I love Ace Combat. I have since the very first one. So saying this should actually mean something to others who love this series. The game is old and tiresome. Lacks little improvement from it's predecessors and stays true to the completely forgettable stories from it's past entries into the series. But we still play it. Why? Because there are no other flight games out there with the same pedigree as Ace Combat. Much like Dynasty Warriors, we know what we be getting when we pick that case up at the store.

And much like the Dynasty Warriors, Namco sees no reason to update the engine, the gameplay mechanics, or even the storyline. Every Ace Combat game is the same. While fun, overall the series has become very forgettable.

The assortment of aircraft at your disposal is once again top notch, and it should be, it's the same planes they have used in the last three entries into the series. The story is as usual convoluted and innane with no memorable points in it whatsoever. The one thing that was a positive for Zero was the addition of multiple enemy Aces. There were, I believe, over 50 different Aces that you could encounter in the game. But all told, Ace Combat Zero is the same as it's predecessors, good mindless fun with little replay value in the end. Pick it up because you love the series. Don't pick it up if you're expecting something new.
