For 800 pts, you can play a game that is what the StarFox franchise should be right now.
However, I would have never thought I'd play a game that could actually improve on a type of game that is usually made on disc. This is what Aces of the Galaxy has done: improves upon a type of game that hasn't had any type of improvements since StarFox 64.
Aces of the Galaxy takes the gameplay from the StarFox series, speeds the game up and gives it a beautiful HD look. Levels, while on the side of generic, are bright, colorful and full of detail. The sound quality of the lasers, crashing into objects and other types of atmosphere is outstanding for a title this small.
Gameplay is a standard 3D shooter with a very basic premise: Shoot anything that moves. The colorful enemies, along with the combo based shooting system, keeps everything going on in a fast clip.
The control is very intuitive with the 360 controller: the game just feels right and doesn't seem to feel too sensitive or slow.
Are there problems? A few. This game is essentially StarFox in HD, since the game does absolutely nothing but standard shooting fare. Also, and this is harking back on the StarFox comparison, why not have any planet levels?
If you know what you are getting into, you will end up enjoying Aces of the Galaxy very much. To put it simply, this is the best game of its kind out there on consoles, even if you count StarFox 64 on the Wii VC. An easy purchase.
