User Rating: 9.2 | Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising GBA
Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising If anything, it's the quality that's rising Graphics (12.5%) - 9 Controls (15%) - 9 Variety (25%) - 9.5 Replay (25%) - 9.5 Sound (7.5%) - 8.5 Depth (15%) - 9 OVERALL Graphics - 9 Everything is bright and colourful and the overhead view is clear. The switch to the battle view is clean and the animations are very crisp and solid. Controls - 9 All information you could need about a particular unit is available at the press of a button and the unit movement and firing range is easy to determine. They do take a little bit of learning, but that can be expected in this type of game. Variety - 9.5 There are a ton of war room battles available on top of the lengthy and very difficult main quest. The single player campaign doesn't have a whole lot of a story, but it's there, and it is indeed war-like, but with a lighter air about it. You can also create your own battle set-ups and can use anything that you can find in the main campaign. Replay - 9.5 You'll probably never finish this game, seriously, the difficulty level as high as it is and having so many war room challenges, this can take up a LOT of time. Even if you manage to finish, you can go back again because you've probably forgotten some of the battles, or you can make your own. Oh, and you can play multiplayer with a single game pak. Sound - 8.5 All sounds are appropriate and well done, just nothing stellar or catchy to note. Depth - 9 There's plenty of strategy to be found here, but it'll take some practice to really understand it. The only draw back in this catagory is that there could be a few more units, but even then, it has the bases covered well enough. One thing's for sure, you won't win using the same tactics over and over. Overall - 9.21 A turn-based strategy game is a great genre for handhelds, and Intelligent Systems is dong a fantastic job with it. Combined this and Fire Emblem makes for about as good as you could ever ask for. This ties Wario Ware Inc. Mega MicroGame$ for the best GBA game released.
