Advance Wars 2 offers a lot; a long campaign, lots of skirmish maps, an interesting story, a lot of new commanders and new powers for the existing ones. What it does not offer a lot of though are new units. The only real new unit is the Neo tank. It offers the largest firepower in the most armored unit available; it’s nothing short of unstoppable for anything but another neo tank or a lot of artillery rounds. It does not unbalance the game though, its just creates a unit that can take a pounding and still be effective. One of the best parts about AW2 is that it offers a much more involved and interesting story this time around. Being already familiar with most of the characters that you fought against in AW you know get to play as all the characters united as one force trying to destroy a common foe. AW2 also takes all the old skirmish maps and adds in a few new ones which is a nice touch, because its fun to play the old maps against new foes and with new powers for your favorite characters. The new CO powers really mix up the action as well, b/c your success really depends on your ability to use your CO powers effectively. The game is difficult, only the most patient video game strategists will finish it, mostly because the last few missions are so difficult that one false step can mean certain defeat. What compounds this is that some of the Black Hole CO's seem to be overpowering. I really enjoyed the game but b/c of its difficulty it may remain inaccessible to the casual gamer.
