Small maps limit the fun once you figure out what the units do: More a puzzle game than a strategy game.
User Rating: 7.2 | Advance Wars GBA
I liked this game quite a bit, but got bored once I realized that there are only a few ways to win the later more difficult maps. The maps are small and you often have turn-limits, so whoever designed the map is making you "win" by making you choose the "correct" units to fight. Not much actual stratgy in that. Bleh. Advance Wars could be a much deeper turn-based game if it had larger maps (not huge, but larger enough to allow more than 2 pre-scripted ways to win). I suspect Advance Wars uses small battle maps because the AI enemies wouldn't stand a chance against a human player if the human player has more strategic choices. Its a fun game when you are on the subway but it doesn't deserve a 9 score.
