Even if you don't like strategy games, you'll have fun with Advance Wars.

I'm not a fan of strategy games, but I understand why this game got the great review it got on Gamespot. Advance Wars is at its simplest, a turn based strategy game, but even if it is easy to learn, has cute cartoony graphics and characters, it still is one of the better games on the Game Boy Advance. The game starts you off in Field Training mode, which guides you through the units and their abilities. If you've played any other strategy games, you'll be familiar with the basic concepts. Infantry are weak, but are the only units that can capture cities, tanks are great against ground units, but must be adjacent to an enemy to attack, rockets are great against ground units, but are costly and can't fire and move on the same turn, and so on. Some units can't move over certain terrain, which include plains, mountains, and rivers. You'll have land, air, and sea units at your disposal. The game simplifies unit production. Unlike other strategy games, there are no resources to collect. The amount of money available to you is dependent on how many cities you have under your control. Each unit requires just one turn to build. Also, buildings are never built, only captured. Each map has a set number of cities, bases, ports, and airports, and you may only capture them, not destroy or build them. Unique to this game are the different commanding officers under your control. Each CO has a different special power, which range from repair of all units, to increased attack range, to increased power. A meter fills up whenever you deal or are dealt damage, and once it is full, you can call on your special power. The best thing about this game is its simplicity. It's a great game for people who've never played a strategy game, and is fun for a while even for people who don't like strategy games. I just finished the campaign mode yesterday, and gave the War Room a try, and here's where I'm reminded of why I stay away from strategy games. I played the first map for nearly two hours, and still couldn't finish it. You'll encounter maps that will require some time and strategy to get through. All in all, one of the better games for the GBA. (even if I don't like strategy games)
