Yet another awful attempt.

For those of you that love your Aussie Rules and are waiting for that game to come out that actually is fun to play, I sadly have to say you will have to wait another year. Once again IR Gurus have put together another sloppy effort which is hardly any better than the previous installment. They taught new features and improvements but these amount to nothing more than some background stadium graphical improvements.

One of the new big improvements was advertised as "put yourself in the game." Great they have added create a player mode and you can finally put yourself into your favorite team right? Wrong! Yes they do make use of the Eye Toy camera and you can scan your face but then it is simply put over an existing players face. There is no name changing, no height, weight or skills to modify, nothing. The controls are poor at best with sloppy response ruining any feeling of having control over your player.

The sound is annoying with the so called improved commentary being poor quality, cut and paste and often out of sink or totally random making no sense to what is happening in the game.

The player models are average and are liken to a Fifa or Madden from the 90's and the Ai and difficulty levels are all over the place.

The addition of the multi tap and some minor career mode additions are nice but lets be honest if that is all that can be improved upon in two years then did it even warrant a new addition to be relaesed.

Overall this game hardly improves on versions 4 years younger, because when you break it down to the nuts and bolts if the game play isn't there then no matter how many times you make the stadiums look better or add some petty features that are nothing more than mutton dressed as lamb then the game is flawed. IR Gurus have relied upon being a monopoly in the Aussie Rules department and have continued to ship bad game after bad game and rehashed the same bad game and just updated the rosters and called it a new game. The only reason you would ever play this game is because it is all that is out there so you either have to live with it or not play at all. When I rate this game I rate it as a sports game in direct comparison to a Fifa or a Madden as it should be. Do yourself a favour save the ridiculous price tag of $80 and keep playing AFL 2002 as then when you get frustrated and put it away again you can at least tell yourself this game is four years old and maybe feel a little better about it. If not then definitely rent it first and see for yourself.
