$9.99 for this game is almost as bad as $7 for a gallon of gas.
age of booty is a nice looking game with a premise that works in theory. the problem is there's not a lot more than that. the game COULD HAVE been something good but in the end it comes off as nothing more than an overrated minigame.
if this game was a minigame in a larger game like Mario Party 9 it would be incredible. but as a stand alone game age of booty is a joke and a waste of time.
it's fun for about 10 minutes (or two rounds). it gets a little hectic with friends and then quickly turns to boring and monotonous. you basically control a ship and decide where it moves (you don't take turns you just move where you want as you want when you want on the game board) around a level of hexagon spaces. when you get next to a town, merchant, enemy ship or village they start shooting and you start shooting (there are no buttons required the shooting all just happens when you're close). if your cannons are strong you win, if not you lose.
you do this repeatedly until you take over more towns than the opposing team. and that's pretty much the game. there's also upgrades for your ship and towns (simple armor, cannon or speed upgrades that don't do much but make you stronger or faster) and you can use curses picked up from merchant ships (which are pointless because the ai just goes around your curse spaces.
that's it. that's all there is to it. other than that...if you play a game against computer you'll want to make sure you have more ships than they do or you'll lose. period. there was some promise with semi cool looking characters you run into in the story mode but there's not much more to this game than that. you will literally get tired of this game in less time than it took you to read this review.
my advice...save your $10 and buy something else like Penny Arcade, Pixel Junk Monsters (unsung PSN classic) or even some add on content for something else. but do yourself a favor and skp this game.
