This won't be a long review. But, plain and simple AoE is the best RTS game ever made. It was made 11 years ago, yet I am still playing it to this day. If you're reading this, then you obviously like RTS games. This is way better than Civilization because you are constantly building and don't have to "wait your turn" to play. The best way to play this game is the "Regicide" play. You build your civilization up until you have a great big army and then march onto the enemies turf to destroy their castle and kill the king. You can even command your computer allies and they really do listen to you, such as waiting to attack or telling them to create more villagers. The one gripe I have with this game is that your troops don't have many hit points, so they die fairly quickly. So, definitely use your trebuchets or elephants first and then send in your troops to wipe up the mess! I love this game. Gold, please!
