M/soft have annoyingly turned a great def/strat RTS into an offensive RTS for the sake of online playability.

AOE has always been about defence and offense. As a 'defensive player' in RTS games I used to love sticking aoe2 on hard and fighting 3 npc at once building huge forts on cliff tops to repel them. You can't do that anymore because walls and towers are too weak.
I have tons of rushing/offensive RTS games like C&C, dawn of war and supreme commander and they do it so much better.
The computer players seem weird too. Sometimes they fight like **** and give in within 10 minutes other times they amass a huge army before you've even mustered 6 villagers together.
There are some great touches like home cities and heroes but I cant help thinking they're there just for the online aspect.

It seems strange that they chose to change a winning formula with AOE3 and lovers of the old AOE will probably be slightly disappointed.
