Worth the Every Penny of the $6 I Paid For It
The flying of the various WW2 aircraft is easy but it lacks rudder controls which I find to be a big flaw in controlling your craft. And if there are rudder controls in this game then I haven't found them. The documentation is non-existent so new users will need to play with the keyboard to find out how to fly.
G = Landing gear SLOWLY goes up/down.
Arrow Keys = Your bread-and-butter flying keys.
Shift = Revs up motor for take offs.
S = Bomb Site
Alt = Drop Bombs
Enter = Fire Rockets
A = Look Right
D = Look Left
W = Look behind you.
They game lacks a replay functions which is hugely annoying. If there is a particular scenario you want to play then you will need to start over in 1939 and work your way up to that scenario. Also in some scenarios, like "Defend Sidi Barini", you need to start the scenario pressing "Shift" or you will die on the run way in about 3 seconds. And there is a mysterious game function which will end pilot's carrer either based on too many crashes or too much flying time or some other factor which I have not figured out. Some planes are a helluva a lot of fun to fly. The Mosquito is great. The Stuka is fun. And the all the jets are fun. But I have a beef with the jets. The speed of the jet planes are way too slow. I think they should be at least 400mph. The main advantage of the jets is they have INCREDIBLE fire power. Ripping up bombers with one or two bursts is a rush.
Also the board for each scenario tends to be a little small. When firing rockets, I find gaining lots of altitute and diving down makes the rocket fire much more accurate. However by the time you gain enough altitude, sometimes the game will warn you you are about to leave the field of battle so you are forced to turn which sometimes ruins your bombing runs.
Bombing is a bit tricky. When bombing keep the "S" press down and have your finger on the "Alt" to drop the bomb. And when you drop the bomb try to just hit the right side of the target.
If you get th the Stalingrad scenario hopefully you will have the Gotha German Jet. Knock out those AA sites fast or you will lose the scenario quickly. Try to knocked out two AA sites per straffing run...
