This game truly changed how, in my opinion, FPS's should be. I pre-ordered this game and I'm not disappointed. What I am disappointed in is Gamespot. This game truly deserves better than a 5.5, at least a 7.0, but I'm not here to just complain, I'm gonna actually review. Unlike any other FPS in the world( Get ready for this) IT'S ACTUALLY NOT IN WAR. OMG. I'VE NEVER SEEN SOMETHING LIKE IT. Yes it's true AvP takes place on a different planet (and get this) YOUR NOT HOLDING A GUN ALL OF THE TIME OMFG!!!!!. You can if you choose a marine, but you can be an Alien whos best weapon is the darkness or the Predator, a Badass human-like alien thing with huge claws that tear through marines like butter. If your a splinter cell fan looking for a good stealth element, then turn around because honestly, this game fails at being stealthy. In the Alien and Predator campaign, which are terribly short, are really cool when you are stealthy, but it's WAY too easy to be stealthy. In the alien campaign I can stand right next to a marine for 5 minutes without him seeing me. What is good about this game is the trophy kills. Simple you go behind someone if you are an alien or predator and BAM a bloody, brutal, and sometimes disgusting trophy kill. For example once as the predator, I ripped out the guy's head from his stomach! And yes, the Campaigns are a blast but way to short. The marine campaign actually made me jump a couple times especially on the first level when your damn motion sensor picks up something form behind you, you turn around and nothings there. (I think you know where this is going) After these memorable campaigns, you have multiplayer. If you seen my review on MW2 then you know that I despise that game so I like the multiplayer a lot, if you like running around with a knife and getting easy kills with a grenade launcher then reconsider buying this because this game is not for you. This game is challenging and takes a lot of skill on where to go and you have strategize on what to do. The gametypes are fun, there are infestation: a fun gametype where there is a team full of marines and one alien, whenever an alien kills a marine, then the marine is an alien. And then there's your simple deathmatch, team deathmatch, and a cool little thing called predator hunt, where there's one predator and team full of marines, when ever a marine kills a predator then that marine becomes the predator. The multiplayer is great fun while it lasts. I never thought I'd be saying this, but for once do NOT listen to gamespot on this one because you would be missing out on a great game.
