A great first-game for newbies (like myself) into the genre of survival horror.

User Rating: 9.5 | Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare PS
Even though the prime of this game is long since past, this game scares me more than the very recently-completed three-part set of FEAR (original, expansions Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate)! I'm always tensed up because of the creepy angles making me feel like i'm going to be instantly eaten by something. I haven't even beaten it and I love it!

Carnby's game, if you ask me, is the only fun side. Aline's puzzles are so confusing; at one time you try to unlock a door with a key. You try again later because there's no other options and it works! That's messed up. With Carnby's game, even though you kill a lot of the enemies over and over, it presents a challenge as to draining your ammo which puts you in a tighter sitrep; a more fitting condition for a survival horror game, since Carnby at one point acquires well over 300+ shotgun shells which is enough to fend off anything in the mansion and its pathways.

The mansion's design and graphics are absolutely amazing, no one place looks like another. It's very fresh and spooky no matter how many times I play through Carnby's game. The graphics engine and mesh system make the environment so realistic and lifelike, it looks like photos edited into game-like animated graphics and put into New Nightmare as the environment.

Overall, I give Alone in the Dark 4: The New Nightmare a 9.5 out of 10.
