Just think about it, US Army's official game. Enough said.

Americas Army is a game financed by the US Army. Let's start there. The world's premium military force decided to create a game which we would use as a source of entertainment and they could get us to sign up for army. A win-win situation. It all depends on how you look at it, as all games, this one doesn't need to be particularly fun to you, nor does it have to get you to go to the nearest recruiting office. The game itself is somewhat different from other FPS. When you first start playing the game online, you will see that it's developed with the focus on realism. There is not much room for newbies, after you complete the basic training, which includes basic moving, weapons familiarization, and firing range you get thrown into fire right away. Sure it's very frustrating for a starter to go against veteran players right away, that's one of the things done bad in this game, there are too few training servers which would allow new players to get a good start. One could say it's just like the real Army, no place for quitters or the weak, but it ain't all like that. Try hard - adapt to it, or make it adapt to you. As one would imagine, in game, you take a roll as a US soldier, picking positions in your unit as your qualifications allows. Special training is required for being a Sniper, a Medic and a part of the US Special Forces which all makes the game much more realistic and fun. The game is team based. Meaning, there is little or no room for being a Rambo, running and shooting as you can see in some other FPS. AA is all about teamwork, covering fire and reporting enemy positions. The thing is, if you have no team to play with, you will never see the real values of the game. OK, that somewhat covers the America's Army gameplay, I say somewhat because you need to play the game and see why it's so special and not just another FPS. And it's free to get, how about that ! The graphics are also done very good, especially the models, guns and bodies. Other textures are a bit out-dated, terrain is done somewhat simple, trees and grass don't differ much from it. The sound quality is done solid, one thing there is to point out are the ambient sounds that are really great, you can hear warplanes passing by, grenades falling, guns firing in the distance and other things you would expect to hear on the battlefield. Really good stuff for the gameplay. The value ? I will say only one thing, there are a few games which can make your heart beat faster after you complete the mission, this game is one of them. All through being done very good overall, Americas Army has many bugs and vulnerabilities that are exploited by cheaters which AA community doesn't lack at all. It also must be said that Punkbuster is doing a great job cutting the number of those players to a minimum. As most of the games out there, AA also has many little things that can make you hate it, but if or, if you let it, when you manage to see the real value of the game, you won't even notice them.
