Let me be clear, my disappointment in the game is definitely not a result of being too hyped. I am certain that if I had not gone into the game with any expectations I still would have not enjoyed it.
The creators removed almost all forms danger from the game. The lantern cannot run out of oil, and there is no longer a health meter.
Every puzzle in the game (If you can call it that), is a simple matter of finding which lever you need to pull.
I recall only two or three points in the game where I actually had to hide from the enemies in suspense. The rest of the game never posed any real threat, just scary sounds and shaking, which honestly got old fast.
It seems that they were so excited with creating their story, that they forsook game play. Granted the story is intriguing and enjoyable. But ultimately the game feels more like an interactive movie than a survival horror.
