Many levels, many apes, many gadgets and forms, much fun
There are 20 levels + 7 boss fights and most of them are pretty easy. At the end the game gets tougher but since you can buy yourself as many lifes as you want it won't become too frustrating. You can use 8 different gadgets and change into 7 different forms to proceed through the levels and get all the 400(?) monkeys. Mastering the controls of the gadgets and forms is the most laborious part of the game but also bewares the game of getting tedious.
It's easy to become addicted to that game. "I need sleep... I just go and look how the next level is like and then I turn the Playstation off... Now that I'm here I can as well catch one monkey or two..." It's because the game is so easy and fun. Normal games sometimes feel like hard work and you want to stop playing at some point anyway.
The length of the game is ok although I wouldn't spend more than 35 euro for it (I got it for 10). To unlock a new level you need to catch a given amount of monkeys in the previous level. Once you have got the required number you are automatically warped out of the level (even if there is another monkey two feet away from you). You can go back and catch all the monkeys you missed at the first try but it's better to play through the whole story of the game first. Because after you defeated the end boss you can catch even more monkeys in each level.
Each of the monkeys available before playing through the story was born on a different day in the year and if you catch the one with your birthday he can give you advice for your daily life. If that isn't rewarding! I haven't caught mine yet and indeed I won't stop playing till I have it!
Now the few not so good things in the game:
The camera control. The camera moves automatically but can be aligned to the direction your character looks in. Not really suited for quick action with circle running apes.
The controls of some gadgets and vehicles could be easier, too. For example when you use the propeller to fly you need to rotate the right analogue stick and I always happen to press one of the right face buttons or a shoulder button while doing so. And down I go. Maybe I'm just clumsy but I'm already trying to be careful... *sob* ^^
The racing car would be a piece of junk immediately if it could take damage.
Ok but it really is a fun game and you should give it a try!
