You want spoof filled Monkey mayhem? You got spoof filled monkey mayhem...
Ape Escape 3 is a pretty simple platformer but instead of just "Reaching the goal" like a boring, standard platforming game would, with Ape Escape you have to capture a certain amount of escape monkeys (As the title suggests). I missed out on the previous two games, but for someone like me who hasn't experienced the joys of catching apes in hi-tec nets, it's simply wonderful.
While Ape Escape has a childish side to it in both the presentation and the difficulty, it can still be enjoyed by older gamers too.
I was suprised to see so many spoofs of many different movies. you can find the likes of Planet of the apes, Beauty and the beast, Star wars, Jackie Chan and Howl's moving Castle. While others aren't so obvious, and a whole new layer of fun is added to Ape escape in the way of trying to figure out what exactly is being spoofed.
A great feature of the game is the ability to transform into different "Persona's" that are gradually unlocked as you play through the levels. Most of the time it isn't necessary to use these, but it makes things a lot more fun. The gadgets are also a great feature which range from RC cars to a hoop that gives you a super speedy boost.
Once you complete the game, an interesting mini game is opened up that Metal gear fans will absolutely adore. The idea itself is pretty comedic but many Metal gear trademarks can be found within it.
Overall, this game can be enjoyed by many. It is truly the greatest Platformer that the PS2 has seen in a while. Not to mention Solid snake fans. That's right, he's in it. Voiced by someone else other than David Hayter though, he doesn't do a half bad job though.
