I can't agree with Gamespot's review on this one. I happen to think David Duchovny was a great choice for the main character. Of course the story did stray a bit from its origins and became a bit odd, but I managed to work my way through the rough spots and enjoy my very first PS2 game. Yes, I said my VERY FIRST. I was late in the game buying a PS2 (spring of '06 to be exact) and this was my first game with the system. 5 minutes in I returned it cursing the developers for leaving out one crucial detail...control customization. Being a Nintendo faithful, I had never played a game that used the particular control scheme...right analog for forward, backward, and straifing; left analog for looking up and down and turning left and right. This left me unable to play the game. A few moonths later, I had forced myself to learn this control configuration and re-purchased Area 51. I have since finished the story and enjoyed my time with it. There were some points in the game that I thought were far too difficult for their own good, but overall, a solid title that I wouldn't mind playing through again. Of course, it helps to have a decent surround sound system and a dark room to really set the mood when playing...I highly recommend trying it if you haven't.
