Amazing Graphics. Amazingly Fun. Super Addictive. Horribly Idiotic AI.
Battling is for the most part enjoyable, and AC customization is out -of-this-world. As I said, most of the time the battles are fun, but at times, they can make you want to throw your PSP at a wall. It took me nearly thirty attempts to beat the sixth enemy, but the difficulty is unstable. I was able to be the 36th opponent much easier than the sixth.
AC customization is amazing because the graphics look sooo good. It also makes you feel like you're building a peice of heavy machinery. I do have a few gripes about the AC types: You start out with all of the parts available to you, only unlocking battles, emblems, and chips as you go. This left my feeling of accomplishment low. Also certain types of AC are way better than others. I was able to smash through the entire Formula Regular (The Higher Division) without much of a problem. I really wanted to make a swordsman AC, but their attack power is not high enough to do well. I believe that the power of laser blades that could slice a car in half should not take twenty hits to kill an AC. They should have made the blades much stronger.
AI was a major selling point of the game. But I found that your AC's AI was as DUMB AS A ROCK. It was to fly around and jump all of the time like it had Robo-ADD only scoring a few hits. I found that making a super powerful, manually controlled AC was very effective in blowing away the the computer's AI controlled ACs (Who were miraculously more intelligent than mine, hmm...) with a Large plasma cannon (My only weapon) that my idiotic AI could never do.
The Interface looked good and was relatively easy to understand except for one thing. The red and blue bars. Let me illustrate.
Part 1: Weight:------------------------------------/|\ 3450
| |
Part 2: Weight:-----------\|/ 5940
Well, you would think smaller weight bar, lighter, right? Wrong! The "B" in Bigger stands for Better. Oooo!!! This was confusing and I found myself going through the first 10 fights with a heavy AC that drank Energy like a Hummer.
At least the interface looks good, there is never a point where there is no movement on the menus. Loading times are not as bad as people are whining about, only taking 15-25 seconds to load a battle.
Overall, there is a short but fun main story, the graphics are great, the gameplay is fun, the audio is one of my favorite parts( Only one voice actor in the entire game, but the music is wonderful), It is worth buying or at least renting, but its difficulty would make it very hard for someone under 15 to play.
Thank you for reading my review of AC:FF, EB
