Let me get this out of the way before I begin this review; I really didn't like the first Army of Two. I thought it was a blatant insult on a real issue and plus the campaign wasn't all that fun, even though the multiplayer was decent. So what in god's name would get me to play this game? Oh that's right! A friend who suggested I try the demo with him. For a game heavy on action and light on plot, the 40th Day is actually pretty fun and a much better game than its predecessor.

The game takes place sometime after the first one. On a simple mission in Shanghai, Eillot Salem and Tyson Rios soon find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. As you soon find out, Shanghai is getting blown to bits by an unknown perpertrator with unknown motives. Your simple mission just got a lot more tougher, as now your objective is to escape the city. But you'll have to get past an army or mercs to do so. As far as the gameplay is concerned, its best played with another friend. Its like RE5. However, if you play solo, your AI teammate is actually pretty smart, giving you covering fire and staying out of trouble... unless if you want it to get into trouble lol. The Aggro system is also back and still works fairly well. And the action is well paced and fun if you want to blast your way through a bunch of enemies. And if you have moments of down time, well there's nothing like a quick game of rock, paper, scissors to keep the pulse surging. In some ways this game is like Bad Boys/Lethal Weapon in the way the game is deisgned, seeing as how you should work together with your teammate to flank your enemies, deal with hostage situations and even make decisions in the various morality moments (which can be odd at times). The campaign, while great fun, is fairly short. But the multiplayer will add more hours to your playtime if your up for it.

In short, the 40th Day does have some flaws to it (such as some minor awkwardness when moving and lag in the multiplayer) but none of them are so bad it degrades the gameplay experience, because this game is a great co-op game if your in the "more action, less plot" mood, which can happen at times. Grab a friend, pimp out a shotgun, paint flames on your mask and get ready to throw down in Army of Two: the 40th Day.
