This is simply the best DSiWare game up till now. 'nuff said!
This title is innovative, addicting, has the word 'nostalgia' written all over it and looks really original. And the best part is: It only costs 500 Nintendo Points. So Art Style: PiCTOBiTS only has one mode, which is both a blessing and a curse. You have to assemble dropping blocks called pictos with blocks which are already at the bottom of the screen. Think like Tetris, but this time you make the combinations. It's really innovative and I dare to call it the worthy succesor of the almighty puzzlegame which started on the Game Boy back in 1989. You get 15 exciting levels in this game and each time when you solve up some pictos, they are added to the top screen. After a while, all those pictos form a nostalgic screen like the 8-bit Mario, the Excitebikes and retro Link. You also get coins for solving the puzzles and you can spend these in two ways. First, you can buy 17 different tracks who originate from the original NES games. Be ready to listen for hours to the soundtrack of games like Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, Ice Climbers and Wrecking Crew. As I've already said, it has the word nostalgia written all over it. You can also buy remixes from all the levels. These are very tough to finish and are a true challenge for puzzle gamers.
The art style of the game is very nice. You really get the feeling you're back in the 80's with 8-bit beeps and music. Unfortunately, sometimes the gameplay can get too hard and there is no multiplayer. But still, this game is simply awesome and addicting. If you are a puzzle gamer, a nostalgia gamer, Nintendo fan or if you simply don't know what to do with your 500 Nintendo Points. This game belongs on your Nintendo DSi, believe me.
