10-Year-Old RPG Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 Has Been Updated Again

New update adds achievements and makes performance tweaks.

A second unexpected update to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 has been released, introducing new achievements, improving compatibility with certain mods, and making a number of general performance tweaks. Universal Changes

  • Added 20 user-generated achievements (see pinned thread for details)
  • Fixed an issue with Pet Rock achievement not unlocking in TSLRCM
  • Fixed a crash when adding more than five mods
  • Fixed two issues tied to Mouse Look
  • Fixed an issue with the controller menu appearing on top of dialog screens
  • Fixed an issue with Kreia not disappearing properly on Korriban
  • Fixed a shader issue causing NPC droid eyes to not be illuminated
  • Fixed an issue with alternate dialog not appearing after multiple play-throughs
  • Changed the behavior of the Light/Dark Side point achievements

Mac-specific Changes

  • Fixed a crash connected to the M4-78 mod

Windows-specific Changes

  • Fixed multiple issues with a spinning camera when certain third-party devices are connected
  • Fixed multiple issues connected to DPI Scaling
  • Fixed an issue with the screen being offset on high refresh-rate monitors
  • Fixed an issue with sounds continuously repeating after moving away from the sound source

Linux-specific Changes

  • Change to cloud-saves, automatically lower-casing files so they can be read on Linux

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 was developed by Obsidian Entertainment, but re-released and updated by Aspyr. The studio has also worked on the Mac version of recent titles such as Civilization: Beyond Earth. It also developed the Mac version of the Beyond Earth's Rising Tide expansion.

The last update for KOTOR2 introduced Steam Workshop support, controller support, native widescreen resolution support, support for up to 5K monitors, and steam Cloud saves.

In other Star Wars news, the new Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens trailer has been released--people are excited. DICE's Star Wars Battlefront, meanwhile, launches on November 17. Publisher EA has detailed the $120 Ultimate Edition of the game, which includes the DLC pass and five unique items.

Wish they would bring KOTOR 2 out for iOS like they did the first one. That was a Insta buy and has a permanent spot on my iPad and so would KOTOR 2.

KotOR 2 is to KotOR 1 what Torment is to Baldur's Gate or NWN2 is to the original. Got that unmistakable Obsidian/Black Isle touch. 2 had the best story but 1 was the best overall gaming experience (just like Torment vs BG).

@Dragon_Nexus: It's kind of a problem with Bioware being owned by EA. If it were up to them, KOTOR 1 would be off Steam and put on Origin.

Not true. You get two emotes which we assume are unique to the deluxe edition. The three other items are quickly unlocked through a couple of hours of play in game for everyone and are just instant unlocks for anyone who was retarded enough to pay $10 more for the deluxe edition.

@fred_evans: Some of us just won't ever bother with classical MMOs. It ruins an otherwise interesting game universe. I've given them multiple tries (WoW, GW2, Warhammer, etc...), and simply find it to be an unlikable genre.

@fred_evans: Because it's an MMO, and not even a particularly good one at that, WoW was always better, Guild Wars is probably better than it, it's trying to be something it isn't. People want a good single player rpg experience.

Awesome, I personally think the second one was better than the first one. The first one was great and all but I feel like they played it too safe and stuck with a really generic story. The second one was so dark and actually made me think about my actions in things, not all good choices always turned out well, sometimes what seems like a good choice will hurt people more than making a selfish choice.

@aretilda: Yes, yes it is. They made Swtor. Which they said was "Kotor 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 ,11, 12... etc" all rolled into one game.

So we will probably never see a Kotor 3.

@Dark_Wr4ith: Though SWTOR is from the creators of KOTOR and not KOTOR2.

With that in mind..being BioWare (Developers of KOTOR) are handling SWTOR, and Obsidian made the last KOTOR (2), it's not hard to think they may get Obsidian to make KOTOR3.

Obsidian want to actually. I saw an article with them a while back can't recall where but they no longer hold the rights anymore to KOTOR. Bioware and APSYR do.

When Original xbox games come to Xbox One this and KOTOR are going to sell like wildfire. Fortunately I already own both games on Xbox but if I didn't I would buy them on the spot if offered.

@NorseLax09: I thought Kotor 2 had the best story in the Star Wars universe that I know of. Kotor 1 had a very generic 'fight the evil guy and save the world' plot (besides the nice plot twist), while Kotor 2's villain tried to do something completely different and the game (finally) explored the gray side of the force.

Still have this game on disk but it crashes when I get to end game on this PC, same with the KOTOR1. Part of the reason I never completed either of them.... that and I'm crap at the games :P

@shadybaby: Just keep an eye out for another Star Wars bundle special, which might happen soon again around the movies. I think at one point you could have picked up like every Star Wars game on Steam, Kotor 1 and 2 included, for like $20 total.
