15-Year-Old Hit by Car After Playing Pokemon Go

"The Pokemon game took her across a major highway at 5 o’clock in the evening, which is rush hour. No game is worth a child’s life."

A teen from Pennsylvania was hit by a car this week after playing Pokemon Go, according to local news site WPXI. 15-year-old Autumn Deisroth was struck Tuesday evening and was hospitalized for injuries to her collarbone and foot; she also had numerous cuts and bruises.

Her mother, Tracy Nolan, told WPXI that the accident happened right after her daughter finished a Pokemon Go session and was crossing a street.

More from the report:

Nolan told Channel 11 News that Autumn looked down a hill and ran, but was struck by a car.

"The Pokemon game took her across a major highway at 5 o'clock in the evening, which is rush hour," Nolan said. "No game is worth a child's life."

Nolan said the driver stopped and held her daughter’' hand until she was taken to the hospital.

An area hospital, the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC, told WPXI that Autumn wasn't the first case they'd seen as a result of Pokemon Go. However, the report didn't include any information on those cases and how severe they might have been.

"Parents, don't let your kids play this game because you don't want to go through what I went through last night. I really thought I was losing my daughter," Nolan explained.

Earlier this week, authorities in New York urged Pokemon Go players not to play the game while driving a car or riding a bike. A man who was playing Pokemon Go crashed his car into a tree, though he survived.

Pokemon Go has become global phenomenon on a level not even developer Niantic might have imagined. Seemingly everyone is playing it, including WWE owner Vince McMahon, while the game is also helping people sell pizza. You shouldn't play Pokemon Go everywhere, though; don't play Pokemon Go at the Holocaust Museum or while driving.

Haha, don't let my kids play this game? Maybe you should've learned your daughter to watch the fucking road no matter what she does when crossing you idiot.

Oh sure....blame the game for it not teaching any responsibilities right? Be bloody grateful that she didn't die out there at least!

Man, the fact that this gaming industry has been bullied more than any other industry out there just shows that people just want to pick on gaming because its worse than the others.

Next thing they'll say is American people are fat because of Chocolate's existence.

Don't let kids play this game? How about you teach your kids to be aware of their surroundings while using their phones?

Sorry about what happened to her daughter, but the game is not to blame for her own incompetence as a parent

While that is unfortunate and I wish her a speedy recovery I don't think that it's fair to blame the game for the incident. People young and old should be taught to be more mindful of their surroundings.

right.....blame the game.......to start, its not the games fault that your daughter got hit by a car. Your daughter should well know to pay attention to her surroundings, especially when crossing the street. Yes, it is a very unfortunate accident that your daughter has gotten into, but at her age, she should well know the dangers of not paying attention when crossing the street

How about teaching kids not to be dumb morons with their games instead of limiting access?

Maybe next time you have a kid, teach him/her to look both ways before crossing the street.

Just a thought.

Agreed. The user needs to be more responsible, particularly since the game warns the player to be mindful of his or her surroundings when it boots.

Eventually, she would have mindlessly crossed a busy highway with or without a game. You just can't protect these types of people from absolutely everything, you know. If it wasn't a highway, it would have been trying to get a piece of bread out of the bottom of a toaster with a fork.

Yep, make sure you blame the game and not the stupidity of your child. Or even your own stupidity. Don't blame those.

I consider this a culling of stupid people. I'm all for it.

This Mom needs to teach her child about safety and awareness. People were hit by cars before Pokemon GO. Stupidity was the cause.

A 15 month old is too young to be responsible for her own safety. Their brains are all mushy and they can barely walk, letalone play on the street... oh you said 15 years old?

@elheber: You obviously have no children, a 15 month old should be already walking, not barely crawling. Your joke doesn't work, but your point still stands, a 15 year old should know better.

Darwinism. Hey mom, instead of encouraging other parents to not let their kids play, how about your kid learns some common sense?

@jshah500: Was going to say the same thing. It's not the game's fault that your dipshit kid walks into traffic. She could have done that with anything on her phone just the same.

If you have to be told not to play this game while driving, or to be aware of your surroundings when entering the street, then you're the problem, not the game.

15 years old? Completely their fault, if at 15 years old you're crossing a major highway during rush hour to play a game whatever happens is your own fault. In no way the game's fault, completely hers. People who do stupid things need to accept responsibility when bad things happen.

Stupid kid and stupid parents saying don't let your kids play this game, the game did nothing.
