24 Reboot Premieres This Year, Kiefer Sutherland on as Producer
The new 24 has been picked up for 12 episodes.
A new 24 series without Kiefer Sutherland in the starring role was announced back in January, and Straight Outta Compton actor Corey Hawkins is set to play the starring role. Now, Variety reports that the rebooted 24 is coming in the 2016-17 TV season with Sutherland on as an executive producer.
24 Legacy has been ordered for 12 episodes and continues the original format with each episode taking place in real-time over the course of an hour--splitscreens and all. Hawkins will play Eric Carter, a military hero returning to the US. Trouble follows him home, prompting him to turn to CTU to help him save his life and stop a large-scale terrorist attack on American soil.
Despite there being no plans for Sutherland to reprise his iconic role, he will serve on the show as an executive producer. Hawkins' co-stars include Miranda Otto (Homeland, Lord of the Rings) and Jimmy Smits (Sons of Anarchy, Star Wars).
The new cast is joined by the original production team of Howard Gordon, Manny Coto, Evan Katz, and Brian Grazer. Coto and Katz will write the series with original 24 director Stephen Hopkins directing.
