250GB Xbox 360 holiday bundle packs in Alan Wake, Forza 3

Microsoft announces new $300 system collection; Turn 10's racer, Remedy's mystery title included in pack due out in the "next few weeks."

This Thursday Microsoft will unleash its full-body motion-tracking tech, Kinect, to the masses both as a $150 stand-alone product and in bundle form. In addition, the company is preparing another Xbox 360 bundle that includes popular system exclusives.

Not the most predictable title pairing.
Not the most predictable title pairing.

Director of Xbox Live programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb recently announced the Xbox 360 holiday bundle via his blog. The bundle will include a 250GB Xbox 360 and two system-exclusive titles: Turn 10's Forza Motorsport 3 and Remedy Entertainment's Alan Wake, which will be available via a download token. The system bundle will retail for $300 and will be available at retailers "in the next few weeks."

Last year Microsoft offered a holiday bundle as well. That $300 version included an Xbox 360 Elite and copies of Disney Interactive's racer Pure and Warner Bros.' superhero action game Lego Batman.

For more on the two bundled titles, check out GameSpot’s reviews of Forza Motorsport 3 and Alan Wake.

Sad to say, but it will probably be more cost efficient to trade in my 60GB 360 and pick this up than to just upgrade my HD..... I'll at least get two new games out of it. BTW, the token idea was pure genius. They knew that plenty of people would just sell the games back to Gamestop or someone else.

@STRIFE9288 This isn't really an article about the Kinect bundle. That was merely mentioned in the opening passage to pave the way for the mention of other bundles that Microsoft is offering - that is the gist of the article. The last thing I want to see in an article that only tangentially concerns the Kinect is another controls traditionalist puffing yet more hot air about motion controls - so tiresome.

Maybe more people will try out Alan Wake. But we all know these tokens will likely end up on eBay.

wtf kinect is dumb. long live the controller. like who the hell wants a game where you pet imaginary animals, hell if i wanted to pet an animal I'lll pet my REAL dog. what can you do with kinect?? besides scrolling the dashboard minority report style, or hit your hand to simulate a button?? can it do FPS?? how about RPG, damn, can it do anythin except pet animals?

@ squidracerX: i agree, but you can trade in games that come with a bundle. There is some copy right disclaimer that doesn't allow you to trade them in at eb games or gamestop. I've tried

@The-Longshot @beestung - hahah you took the words out of my mouth! @238GameAddict - Halo is not a good game to compare to these two games (bundle game resale wise) as most people who bought the Reach bundle WANTED Halo; many people who buy this bundle may not want one or the other game (such different genres), i assume they were bundled because they were exclusives, but yeah you will see many more copies of these games being sold back (if they were discs) than you would of Halo - plus Halo's multiplayer means people will hang onto their copies much longer than the average game I would assume.

@bawkbawkboo1 - yeah that would be a deal breaker for me, no disc - but the games will be on my hard drive forever? And I HAVE to connect to the internet.... Bah. All I can think is that when bundles like this come out, many people try to sell those games if they are on disc, and it makes them kinda worthless at that point. Your not going to sell new copies of the title like ever again (lego batman was like $5 anywhere after that other bundle). So this way you ca';t just sell them? But you could sell the token I guess, but yeah who would want that? Dunno. Weird.

not bad but for the digital copy's of the games, i understand not wanting to entirely ruin the resale value of games, but they are already doing that by releasing so many new ones all the time anyway so whats the dif, if it were me bundled games would be more of a selling point if i actually had a hard copy i could keep in my collection if Thor forbid something happens to my hardrive. Thats one thing i think some people tend to forget is that with digital downloads you could lose the games if you lose the data, sure once you get a new drive you could re download the game/info but thats if there isn't some goofy glitch with the downloading and licensing by then (and personally i don't trust microsoft will insure this doesn't happen), so call me paranoid but i always feel safer with a hard copy of a game. otherwise tho good lookin bundle new box is lookin sexy as ever.

@Crumblet Microsoft already released a limited edition reach bundle in september and has no problems selling copies of the game and consoles separately. While alan wake was an incredible game, it didn't sell too well. Maybe it's their way of getting more people interested in it so the sequel does better.

Alan Wake was amazing, Forza 3... well, if you're a racing fan you may like it. This is definitely a strange pair, weird that they wouldn't toss in one other because those 2 are very specific genre/grames. I would've tossed in maybe an extra game, something that didn't do too well. (NOT a movie based game.)

@bawkbawk It's likely a download token because: A. It encourages people to go online with their Xbox and make them aware that you can download full 360 games. B. Pack in games absolutely destroy the value of a game because it floods the used market with unwanted copies. You can buy Lego Batman from last year's bundle for like $2 on eBay. A token cuts down on that because if a person redeems it to try the game out, they can't then go and resell it. And even if someone decides to sell their unused token, it's going to be a onetime sale only. Whoever buys it is going to redeem it, taking it out of circulation.

I wonder why Reach isn't part of the bundle? I'd figure more people want a 360 for Halo games than Alan Wake.

I already own Forza 3 and Alan Wake so I'll be picking up the 250 GB Kinect Bundle here in a couple days. I wish they would include these games in my bundle even though I own them. I have some friends that would enjoy them.

@MOwens9512, 10 gigs is nothing to 250 gig 360 hd. you dont need as much space on it like the ps3 hds because there is no game data installs on 360.

The only gripe with this to me would be the games being only available by download. I don't know why they felt the need to do so, but it would have been much better if you had the disc and didn't have to download the games. Yeah it's a 250GB hard drive and all but you're taking up at least around 10GB unnecessarily. Still it sounds like a nice package for someone who wants an XBox.

your better off to buy the kinect bundles. all the stand alone kinects are already gone. wal-mart was the last place that had them in stock. but you had to buy a extra game with it. today that is no longer a option. kinects alone are already selling for over 200 each on ebay. so if you get a kinect system bundle you could have a extra 100+ bucks to spend on any games you want....

not a bad bundle, except they should come with disc copies of the games, not download codes good to see Alan Wake will get more play this way, I really liked it though it didn't sell too hot last May, I'm not to big of a Forza fan though but also not bad to include in the bundle as lots of others obviously like it

No disc makes sense from a business point of view-a download token means you wouldn't be getting a chance to trade the game in for money towards one you really want! I bet we will be seeing more "bundles" like this in the future - especially with games that you get to download for free, but then end up paying $40 worth on add-ons! That being said, I don't own these two, and it does give me some incentive to finally upgrade from my original 360 :)
