$5 Killzone 3 Steel Rain DLC out next week

Two-map multiplayer pack hits PlayStation Network April 12; free for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

No Caption Provided Guerrilla Games' widely praised shooter Killzone 3 debuted in February and immediately played host to the $5 Retro Map Pack. Now, the shooter is getting a second heap of postrelease content.

According to a post on the official PlayStation Blog, Killzone 3 will welcome the Steel Rain multiplayer map pack beginning April 12. The content will sell for $5, but PlayStation Plus subscribers can download it for free until May 10.

Killzone 3's multiplayer experience grows next week.
Killzone 3's multiplayer experience grows next week.

As for the maps within the content, Steel Rain is composed of two new environments based on Killzone 3's single-player campaign. Junkyard is a guerrilla warfare map that has players duking it out in a drenched garbage processing factory. The other map, Stahl Arms, is a warzone map set on one of "Helghan's largest weapons manufacturing plants."

@ gobbo00: Wrong. All dlc, avatars, themes or basically anything other than games that you get for free with ps+ you get to keep afterwards.

Looking at the file size I am sure these maps are already on the disk like the retro pack. Oh and when your PS+ subcription ends you will have to fork out for a new subsription. Or pay for the maps, mind you there not expensive in anycase. And it's a given that some will trade in the game at some point meh.

Finally some new maps to play on, I got bored with the current maps a long time ago. I'm glad us PS+ members are getting it free, this will help keep the community less seperated. Time to take KZ3 out of my Helghast Edition helmet. :D

@Animatronic64 Indeed valve does rule :) Free DLC is always a good reason to keep buying valve games.

The pricing is not too bad, but I have never forked out yet for extra maps for FPS games. I mostly play warzone so I don't think I'll be too badly affected if I don't get these maps.

I really miss the good old days where FPS games added new SINGLE PLAYER content and not worthless overpriced map packs.

lol @ thumbs downs. Its true though. Killzone 2 was a hardcore game. Killzone 3 has no recoil, fast movement, no weight, and they blatantly copied the perk system, and 4 perks from Call of Duty. Of course, every FPS these days seems to copy it.

Killzone 3 is a good game, but I think I will stick with the game they sold me and put the money I saved from this and Black ops DLCs and buy a copy of Socom. Sounds good to me.

why can't junkyard be available for warzone... it's pretty much five bucks for one map if you never play guerrilla warfare.

@Animatronic64 I agree wtih you to some extend, but the KZ3 maps can hardly be compared to CoD maps. Just look at the imense detail in the enviroment in KZ3 MP maps. You can't say the same about a single CoD MP map. On top of that there's the vehicles, which are a nice edition. I just wish they didn't feel like they had to release a couple of new ill thought out trophies along with the DLC. I hate MP trophies!!!

@lilboicookie Actually, it isn't that much better. In a typical Call of Duty map pack, you get 5 maps for $15, and if you do the math, that's about $3 per map. Here you get 2 maps for $5. Wow! You would save $2.50 if the Killzone developers made a pack consisting of 5 maps, but seeing as how these things usually turn out, they'd probably charge $15 instead of $12.50. The only good map pack is one that's FREE (the way it's supposed to be in the first place). However, by showing these publishers you're willing to pay for something they'd normally do for free in the past, they'd rather charge you. I won't blame publishers like Activision all together, though. Sony and Microsoft have a lot to do with this. For example, Valve wanted their DLC for the 360 version of L4D2 to be free (just like on the PC), but thanks to Microsoft's policy, they had to put a price on it. Personally, I've never bought any DLC; the only thing I'm willing to pay for is full fledged expansion packs.

$2.50 a map basically. Thats actually a good deal... You end up expanding an already high replay value portion of the game.

Rough math done: each of this map it's 17 percent cheaper than last CoD dlc counterpart. Now I can't do math with how much the KZ quality eclipses CoD.

Guerilla Games sold out everything that made Killzone 2 different and amazing. Its basically just Call of Duty, without most of the features of Call of Duty(though they did rip 4 perks straight from it) and it's Killzone sci-fi setting. Done with Killzone. And DLC is never worth it unless it is free.

People are still willing to pay for DLC at all? Nothing will change as long as people still pay. My guess is people are getting less interested in it though or this would be more than $5.

to everyone make comments about the price vs cod, this is roughly the same pricing 5 for 2 is only fifty cents less per map than 15 for 5, that pricing is still outrageous but this really isn't much better
