Acclaim Makes HBO Deal Official
Acclaim Entertainment announces team-up with HBO for its upcoming boxing video games.
Acclaim Entertainment announced on Tuesday that it has teamed with HBO to deliver a new line of boxing games to the video game arena. According to Acclaim, it will release the debut title, HBO Boxing, this fall on the PlayStation.
HBO Boxing is being developed by Osiris Software Design Studio, and it will incorporate the distinct look and feel of HBO Sports boxing telecasts. This will also include using HBO Sports graphics and theme music, as well featuring real-life-boxing venues. HBO broadcasters Jim Lampley, Larry Merchant, and Harold Lederman will provide game commentary.
HBO Boxing will feature more than 30 boxers, including former legends. Players will begin in gyms and work their way up the HBO Sports boxing series ladder: KO Nation, HBO Boxing After Dark, HBO World Championship Boxing, and finally TVKO Pay-Per-View.
"We are excited about teaming up with the biggest name in televised boxing - HBO Sports," said Michael Jerchower, director of licensing for Acclaim Sports. "We're taking boxing video games to a new championship level by incorporating the full lineup of HBO Sports' boxing series, while featuring more than 30 past and present champions, intuitive gameplay controls, and award-winning HBO Sports broadcast team members."
