Acclaimed Co-Op Shooter Helldivers Heading to PC

Helldivers, the acclaimed top-down shooter released on PlayStation systems earlier this year, is coming to PC.

Developer Arrowhead Game Studios announced the news over the weekend, revealing it will arrive on Steam at some point in December. A price wasn't announced, but the PlayStation versions (which support Cross-Buy across PS4, PS3, and Vita) cost $20.

The PC version of Helldivers will come with the three free expansions that have been released on PSN: Masters of the Galaxy, Turning Up the Heat, and Democracy Strikes Back. There will also be DLC available; Arrowhead didn't say exactly what packs would be up for sale, but there are quite a few on PSN, each of which adds a mix of new items and weapons.

It doesn't sound as if there will be any new content in this version, but there will be a few of the expected PC features. That includes the ability to rebind keys, tweak graphic settings, and communicate through text chat.

According to the Steam listing, Helldivers is being published by PlayStation Mobile, which explains the PlayStation logo at the beginning of the made-for-PC trailer above. This marks what appears to be the first such game published by PSM on Steam. (The standalone Mobile service was shut down earlier this year.)

Despite the serious-on-the-surface appearance of the trailer, the game is actually pretty silly in a Starship Troopers kind of way (as you might expect from a game with an expansion called Democracy Strikes Back). It's best played cooperatively, where friendly fire actually proves to be one of the most entertaining elements. For more, check out GameSpot's review.
