Activision catches Spider-Man

The game company acquires the rights to Columbia Pictures' upcoming feature film based on the comic book character.

Activision announced today that it has acquired the rights to produce interactive entertainment products based on Columbia Pictures' upcoming film Spider-Man. The deal gives Activision the worldwide rights to develop and publish games for all current and next-generation platforms, including the PC. Although the motion picture is scheduled for release in May 2002, no release dates for any upcoming Spider-Man games have been announced.

In a separate agreement, Activision expanded its association with Marvel Comics and acquired the long-term exclusive rights to the Spider-Man comic book character. Under this agreement, Activision will develop and publish an unlimited number of games based on the license. We'll have more information on the upcoming Spider-Man games as soon as it becomes available.
