Activision officially publishing next NASCAR in Feb.

[UPDATE] Eutechnyx actual license-holder, but megapublisher will distribute the next game based on the popular stock-car racing circuit; 360, PS3, and Wii versions confirmed.

Less than a week after it was first rumored, ESPN is now confirming that Activision will publish the next NASCAR game. The company will reportedly distribute the game, the license for which is actually held by its developer, Eutechnyx. The exclusive multiyear deal will see the Big Mutha Truckers and Ferrari Challenge shop make several NASCAR titles.

</img>

According to ESPN, NASCAR went with Britain-based Eutechnyx because it is a specialty racing studio. The sports network also said Eutechnyx's relatively small size will allow the stock-car racing league to be more integrally involved in the game's development.

Ed Martin, Eutechnyx's executive North American vice president, explained the reason why NASCAR chose to award the license directly to a developer. He said that toward the end of its licensing deal with Electronic Arts, where Martin helped run the racing series, "EA, quite frankly, lost interest in NASCAR. They had the exclusive license, so they no longer needed to put all their resources into it. They outsourced everything and the [series] languished."

NASCAR 2011: The Game will arrive in February 2011 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii. That would put it in stores around the time of the Daytona 500, which will open the 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series on February 20.

[UPDATE] Activision has now formally announced the game, which will have over 22 real-world tracks. It will also support up to 16 players and have an experience system which will unlock cars, decals, and sponsors in career mode.

GT5 will only have 3 NASCAR tracks and maybe a dozen drivers. Far from racing with a full 43 car field. You think 23 tracks is bad how about racing the same 3 everytime. Also Activision is the distributor, not the developer. Activision isn’t making a thing. Eutechnyx has got quite a list of features at the games website nascarthegame.com. Also they have been working on this title for quite some time. It is expected to be one of the better releases in the last 10 years and that’s saying something for a first release from a new company.

If you are going to buy activion games buy them used, PLEASE DONT GIVE THEM MONEY...They have ruined just about every good game franchise that they got thier grubby little hands on. examples (Tony hawk, Call of duty, and even though they dont have a major contract with blizz to mess with there games World of fail craft) I'm sick of seeing my favorit developers switch over to them...why MONEY once activivison becomes head the plot in the games just gets shot over abd over again. Grafics get dulled down (good and bad cause developers think only for grafics now days) and game play becomes too easy even a caveman can play it.

Wow this is interesting, not until I see gameplay will I say that I will buy this, and it is interesting to see that this is officially announced when just under 24 hours EA will shut down its online service for NASCAR 09.

Anyone thats linked to that god aweful game Ferrari Challenge SHOULD NOT be working on a NASCAR title. FC was one of the worst racing games I think I have played and this has got me very worried for the future of NASCAR games.

This can't help but beg the question about this vs GT5's NASCAR... that being an official license and all. I'm rather surprised this wasn't mentioned in the article. Admittedly, this will surely carry the full lineup and schedule and will hit the specific target audience, but what plenty of profit likely hinges on is if the more general racing genre fan will dig up $60 more for this relatively niche angle. (This does not include 360 and Wii players, of course)

After all the bad press this week attributed to Kotick, is this meant to make things better? Activision - "Look everybody, we've confirmed that we are gonna publish NASCAR" Everybody - "Eeeeerrrrm, don't really care!"

To be fair, during the years where Ed Martin actually supervised NASCAR games before being VP, those games are actually very good (somewhere between 2001 and 2004), which includes Dirt to Daytona and the Thunder series. Still, the name of Activision cringes me in fear. And Eutechnyx doesn't have that good of a background either...I mean, Le Mans is a good game from them, and that's, like, a decade ago.

@FallenOneX Unfortunately you probably won't get a GOOD dedicated Nascar game if Ea or Activision is developing it.

The fact that many people keep bringing up GT5 makes me stop and think.... Do you really think they spent that much time and effort working on the NASCAR part of the game? I'm willing to bet they didn't, even if it does turn out fun to play. Fans of NASCAR need a game dedicated to just that, just like fans of any other genre.

And then EA will pull out a new NASCAR to smash Activision. Then both will argue over who's more evil over the games again.

So Activision is going to try to get into sports? Knowing they have the money I think Acitivision is going to buy the NFL license once their deal with EA expires.

As a Nascar fan, it sounds good to me but with Gran Turismo 5 featuring Nascar, Im gonna be torn. Putting "The Game" after its title is really unnecessary though. That would be as bad as a Madden game having the subtitle "The Game" after its title every year.
