Activision reveals WSOP platforms, date

Last month, Santa Monica, California-based Activision showed part of its poker hand by announcing that it had acquired the rights to the World Series of Poker license in conjunction with Harrah's Entertainment. With impending competition from other publishers attempting to capitalize on the poker craze sweeping the nation, Activision made its announcement straight-faced, not revealing which platforms its poker franchise would be dealt on.

However, with the finals of the World Series of Poker currently under way in Las Vegas, Activision could no longer sit on its hand. A build of the game has been on display at Harrah's Rio Suites in Las Vegas at the WSOP Lifestyle Show, a gathering of poker fanatics and vendors hawking wares for all things poker-related.

Joining the previously announced PC version will be PSP, GameCube, Xbox, and PlayStation 2 editions. The game is expected to hit shelves "later this summer." Activision has not revealed any further information on the game.

World Series of Poker will be headed into the final table against 2K Sports' World Poker Tour 2K6 (September 2005), Myelin Media's Stacked with Daniel Negreanu (fall 2005), Crave Entertainment's World Championship Poker 2: Featuring Howard Lederer (November 2005), and Namco's Payout Poker and Casino (November 2005).
