Activision secures exclusive rights to Spider-Man movie
Activision will develop and publish video games based on the upcoming Spider-Man movie.
Activision announced today that it has secured the exclusive rights to publish and develop video games based on the upcoming Spider-Man movie. The agreement with Marvel Enterprises allows Activision to develop games based on the movie for the PC, handheld, and next-generation console platforms. The agreement also grants Activision the rights to produce video games on said platforms for any sequels or television programs related to the motion picture. Activision also extended its current contract with Marvel to produce video games based on the Spider-Man comic book character.
"We are thrilled to create interactive games based on the storyline, characters, and action-packed sequences from the upcoming Spider-Man film," Ron Doornink, president and COO of Activision, stated. "Activision will bring our own brand of interactive magic and vision to this unique property and continue building on the success we have already had with the Spider-Man franchise."
Activision will reportedly work closely with Sam Raimi, the film's director, to ensure that the game reflects the characteristics of the feature-length film. The Spider-Man movie is currently scheduled for worldwide release in May 2002. No release date has been set for the video game versions of the movie.
