After Coronavirus Scare, The Batman Resumes Production

Warner Bros. has confirmed to Variety that The Batman has fully resumed production. Work on the superhero movie had ground to a standstill earlier this month after recent reports that star Robert Pattinson tested positive for COVID-19.

"Following a hiatus for COVID-19 quarantine precautions, filming has now resumed on The Batman in the UK," a spokesperson for Warner Bros. Pictures told Variety. The announcement shouldn't come as a total shock, as photos of Pattinson out and about in London with his girlfriend Suki Waterhouse (Detective Pikachu) were spreading around Twitter on Wednesday.

According to Variety, The Batman had only shot "roughly 25%" of the film before being previously halted by the industry-wide coronavirus production shutdown back in March. Production had only recently resumed on September 1. There were no reports of whether others, aside from Pattinson, had tested positive.

The Batman is still expected to be released on October 1, 2021, with two planned sequels and also a spin-off prequel series for HBO Max. A recent trailer revealed at the DC FanDome virtual convention offered a recent spike of excitement for the project.

The Batman is being co-written by director Matt Reeves (War for the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield) and Peter Craig (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Parts 1 and 2). It stars Pattinson (Twilight), Zoë Kravitz (The Lego Batman Movie), and John Turturro (The Big Lebowski).
