After Going Free To Play, Square Enix Is Ending Seasonal Updates For Foamstars

The servers will remain on.

Square Enix has announced that Foamstars will not be receiving any new season updates after its upcoming one ends on January 17, 2025. However, a concluding update will add several new gameplay features.

The update will allow players to customize shots of each other and add new enhancements like Prism Gems. There will also be series of in-game events named after each character called Foamstars Cup.

Thankfully, the game's servers will still be online for the foreseeable future, and previous season passes will be made available again. Players can switch between which season pass they'd like to work on, making it possible to unlock their corresponding items at any time.

The upcoming and last season of Foamstars, titled Party Goes On, starts on December 13 and ends on January 17. The season adds Nier: Automata skins for characters Soa and Agito, who wear 2B and 9S's costumes, respectively. Foamstars is a Splatoon-like shooter that was exclusive for PlayStation consoles.

Released back in February, Foamstars was free for PlayStation Plus subscribers for one month, after which the game cost $30. However, Square Enix announced several months later in October that it had switched the game to a free-to-play model.
