After Pokemon Go's Huge Success, Hollywood Racing to Make Live-Action Movie - Report

Godzilla studio reportedly "moving toward a deal."

In April, we heard about a bidding war for the Pokemon movie rights. Now, it's been reported that talks are heating up further after the massive success of Pokemon Go.

Deadline reports that "all Hollywood has renewed the chase for a deal to turn Pokemon into a feature film." The site added that Godzilla and Warcraft film company Legendary Pictures is "moving toward a deal" to make a live-action Pokemon movie.

Information is light at the moment, and Deadline stresses that "no deal has been closed." The April report claimed Legendary was "aggressively" pursuing a Pokemon movie deal, while Harry Potter studio Warner Bros. was also reportedly in the mix.

Warner Bros. has a Pokemon history, as it released Pokemon: The First Movie in 1999 to commercial success; this film was followed by sequels Pokemon: The Movie 2000 (2000) and Pokemon 3: The Movie (2001). These movies were animated, however, while the one studios are reportedly bidding for now would be live-action.

Pokemon Go launched last week and has since become a global phenomenon. On the business side, its release has added $9 billion to Nintendo's market cap.

Um, Legendary didn't have anything to do with the Hunger Games, Lionsgate produced it.

GameSpot added an Entertainment news section next to the regular News section a while back. I think it's time to add a Pokemon Go news section right next to it.

I always liked the idea of a live-action pokemon show/movie. They would have to be really smart with casting though.

This will sit on the shelf in pre-production hell for at least two years before they even cast the roles. Directors will be dropping in and out like a revolving door. In five years, when filming starts (and that's a generous estimate), the game we'll all be looking back at Pokemon Go and thinking, "Remember when that game broke the internet for three months?"

Smartest move ever. They could tie Go into it. Like the app actually acts as a window to a world where Pokemon are real and they can influence our world. Watch Go get massive profits and the Pokemon movie breaks a billion. Then add in theatres turning their place into poke stops or gyms and include opportunities for rares and its all money.

All the while Nintendo quietly collects mountains of cash.

I think I threw up a little in my mouth... Pokemon and live action will not go well together. At all. Not without looking completely horrendous.

Hollywood at it again with non original ideas & instead want to make something popular here in the real world into something of a disaster for a quick cash grab that kids will cry & whine till their parents give in

what i think sooooooooo many people are missing in these massive overnight success stories is that these people are making money to the n'th degree. hello supercell sold for $10 Billion and it was the same story.

its not that these games aren't fun and creative but the pay per use model is going to destroy the social balance in the world. ive seen the same model showing up in other markets. i went to a restaurant and they offered a fast pass fee to be seated ahead of all others. this is different than a reservation, i could walk up to a 1-2 hour wait line and throw down $$ and instantly be bumped to a table. yes, so can all others..its when this model expands to name ur price for priority that thing go way wrong. this is a dangerous system. People, we live in a " keeping up with the Jones" society and our children are exposed to this more than we know. take stance on this and make sure U and others are not feeding a system and allowing it to define how u enjoy entertainment.

i would want to see this movie, but i dont like how they are only now rushing to make it happen as a result of this games popularity. it always money that defines these things.

dont get me wrong i enjoy the game a lot and do spend money on it, but i play how i want to. I.E i don't let what others around me are doing define how i play the game.

I think a live action one would be a good fit too appeal to audiences around the world. Give it to the Dark Knight/Warcraft film company, theyre good. Or have Disney do an animated one.

Okay, seriously the gaming industry needs to get a restraining order on the movie industry.

Because Pokemon Go started the idea of people stealing things...

Anyway i think it should stay in it's animated form. Can't imagine a live action movie looking any good.

Didn't WB already have the Pokemon license? Wasn't this shit a thing before Pokemon GO has people stealing and stabbing other people for their iPhones/Androids?
