After PS4 and Xbox One, Arcade-Style Super Mega Baseball Hits PC

Super Mega Baseball Extra Innings available now on PC with a special discount.

Following its launch for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, independent developer Metalhead Software has released its acclaimed sports game Super Mega Baseball for PC.

The Extra Innings version of the game, featuring more stadiums and "enhanced gameplay," is available now on Steam for a launch-week discount of $17. The price will go up to $20 on August 28.

Not even a fan of baseball? Super Mega Baseball may still be for you, Metalhead says.

"Don't be fooled by the light-hearted/comical presentation, Super Mega Baseball has some solid baseball mechanics that earned praise and is bringing people who dislike baseball into the sport," the developer said.

The Extra Innings content is currently available on Xbox One as well, and will arrive for PS3 and PS4 in September through a free patch.

Super Mega Baseball is not a licensed game, so don't expect to see your favorite Major League Baseball players or stadiums in the game. If that's a deal-breaker, you can play MLB 15: The Show on PlayStation consoles or RBI Baseball 15 on Xbox and PC.

Super Mega Baseball lets you play against the CPU or with up to four friends via local co-p. The game boasts a strong score of 85 on GameSpot sister site Metacritic.

Only thing its missing is pick off moves and the ability to shift the infield/outfield. Also it calls a lot of balls hit down the lines foul that should be fair. Other than that's its pretty solid. Actually really fun.

Game is good. Fielding could have been better on fly balls though. Hard to judge the ball sometimes and you miss easy catches.

Is a gamepad necessary when playing on PC?

@ArunabhaGoswami: Get a Logitech F310 already.

Keyboard and mouse is great for shooters, but sucks for racing games, fighting games, sports games, and emulators. There's absolutely no reason to not own a controller these days.

@DrunkenPunk800: You are probably right, but I simply suck with gamepads. So I play all kinds of game with kb+mouse, which includes games everyone said was unplayable without a gamepad. It's also why I stopped playing FIFA after 11.

I bought this the moment it launched yesterday, and I have to agree with pretty much what I've heard in every review. If you can get passed the look of the players and the fact it's not licensed. This game is a fantastic baseball game. My buddy came over to play local co-op on PC last night, and I was concerned he'd dislike it because he's a big MLB fan, but he really enjoyed it.

You may not know him or I, but I can say that it speaks volumes for us both to enjoy it. We also enjoyed MLB The Show, but Super Mega Baseball is a real gem of a game that will get a lot of play time.

This game is worth every penny of what they are asking. This is the most pure fun I've had playing a game in a while and the best baseball game I've played in a very very long time.

Great game. Glad to see it go to as many platforms as possible. Which means more money for devs and therefore continued releases.

@GSGuy321: well keep in mind that exclusive deals are cut and devs are paid for their potential losses...but I agree in the sense that the more people that get to play it, the better

This is the best sports game outside of Rocket League to come out over the last 15 years...no hyperbole. So solid and the developers clearly understand the game of baseball.

Glad I got to pick this up for $4 during a PSN flash sale...I would have paid $60 - the same price for that overrated and rehashed MLB the Show.

@sukthefac: Who are you kidding? MLB The Show is the best baseball series ever made. Even better than World Series Baseball.

Each year it looks and plays better. FAR from being "rehashed"

@DrunkenPunk800: Not to me. I bought the first ps4 version (14?) because I was convinced that it was a whole new game on a new engine. The 60fps was a nice change but other than that all I bought were hair physics.

I've been playing the same game since and have absolutely no reason to pick up any new one based on my time with their rentals.

Also pitchers are still waaay too good at fielding. Outfielders give easy tell-tale signs and animations to immediately tell me if a ball is going to be caught. Have you played real competitive ball? Because that's not how it works.

It looks real but doesn't FEEL real much of the time. This arcade game has a more believable punch based on animations and physics
