The Stomping Land, a planned multiplayer dinosaur-survival game that raised $114,000 on Kickstarter, is now in a critical state with its art lead quitting and its creator not responding to emails.

In June 2013, The Stomping Land Kickstarter project managed to raise more than $114,000 from 4,400 backers, having initially only asked for $20,000.

A year later, a first build of the project was published on Steam Early Access, and at the time its lead developer--Alex Fundora--assured that "even though the game is available, development is still in full force."

However, this would mark the final update on the game's Kickstarter page. Now, the game's lead artist has quit the project and says he hasn't been able to establish contact with Fundora in weeks.

In-game model designer, Vlad Konstantino, wrote on The Stomping Land forums: "More than a month has passed since the day when I received the last reply from Fundora. I've sent him five messages and haven't got any single reply."

Konstantino also claimed that Fundora owes him money, and that "if this silence continues I will stop my participation in TSL and start taking the necessary measures to cover my expenses."

The message, first brought to light by PC Gamer, adds that Konstantino is now working on a different project entirely.

One backer, who said they had invested $90 in The Stomping Land, has informed Kickstarter of the issue, but the crowd-funding site could only offer an apology in return.

It is not clear if Kickstarter can or will take any further action.

People need to realize that kickstarter is the venture capitalist for the masses. YOU. ARE. NOT.GUARENTEED. ANYTHING. Get over your self-importance. If you can't afford to speculate, don't. But if you do and you make a bad call, live with it and learn for next time.

Is this supposed to be news?

Why do you think Kickstarter has been such a success up to this point? Because every project that had been previously backed has come to fruition? Of course not. It's all about potential: the potential of creating something that would not have existed otherwise, and with that comes the potential for failure.

Funding a project on Kickstarter is a lot like investing in the stock market. You could invest your money and hope to grow your initial investment, but you also run the risk of taking a loss on it, and there are extremes to both sides of this coin (ie, this particular example). Invest a little and if you lose your investment, it's not big deal. Invest a lot...well, now it's a bigger deal. Doing your homework and taking the time to research a particular stock will obviously help your chances of making a successful investment, but each and every stock will carry the inherent risk of producing a negative return.

Stuff like this is going to happen as long as Kickstarter exists, and that fact makes it neither good nor bad. As a general rule in life, there are always going to be people that attempt to scam, steal from, take advantage of, or abuse a good (or bad) concept or system. It simply comes with the territory.

Of course Kickstarter should look into this particular situation and others like it to see if anything can be done on its end to minimize these occurrences, but no matter what measures they decide to take, said risk will always remain. If you choose to invest and get burned, that's on you.

In stock market

investing involves expected returns

investing has regulations

investing has accountability

investing has obligations

investing is governed by law

investing has been around for long time

investing is not a newly coined marketing/sales strategy

investing has actual SOP

etc etc etc etc etc

is not the same pears and apples are both fruits but they are too different in many ways. Bad analogy. sorry.

Keep blaming on the consumers side only and you will create more chaos in the already unregulated field.

Balance is power for healthy improvement.

If this isn't even gaming news to you then I believe you need to go back to stock market and satisfy your so evolved self gratification needs over there, at least you can comment on real news over there rather than wasting time on this bs.

I don't know why I expected a lot more intelligence and accurate business insight from these comments but I was a fool to ever do so. This is FAR from a kickstarter creator problem. This happens every day even in actual market products.

It's really easy to have an idea, and even put together a decent build of a game. As any dev will tell you though, the last 10% takes as long as the first 90% - and this is where people who have already been paid will lose that initiative to push through and finish the project. Would you pay for a half built house?

Projects ending like this are a shame as kickstarter is a beacon for all people who are fed up of the AAA shite we get nowadays. We've had some great games through kickstarter and plenty more to come.... but only from big name people and their new studio's. News like this will completely cull any interest in the backing of new upstarts that could potentially deliver ground breaking games. Only Kickstarter can make this right by imposing new rules to make sure backers don't get burnt.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Not sure if you've ever heard of it but there's a PS3 game out there called JURASSIC : The Hunted. It's easy as all get-out and not 'great' but it's a serviceable enough guilty pleasure...... if you're into that kind of thing......

there should be a policy in place at Kickstarter that offers better protection for investors. the way it seems, anyone can ask for money and just bail with it.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Funny. I'm a pc gamer, and I NEVER pay for unfinished products.

The only time I almost did was Road Redemption, but I made the smart choice not to when I saw the campaign was a fraud. They promised a Road Rash spiritual successor, but delivered Goat Simulator on bikes. Since then, crowd funding is dead to me. It's all a scam.
