Alan Wake, Quantum Break Dev Confirms New Project, Codenamed P7

The game will be released one a "wider range of platforms."

What's next for Alan Wake and Quantum Break developer Remedy? As part of its latest earnings report (via PlayStation Lifestyle), the Finnish studio shared some further insight, including the confirmation of a new "game project" that is codenamed P7.

That the game exists is about all we know. However, Remedy did say that its goal for it is to release it on a "wider range of platforms," which suggests it won't be exclusive to any one system. Remedy also made a point to mention that its Northlight game engine will support PlayStation 4. This was the engine used to create Quantum Break, which was exclus

In addition to P7, Remedy is making the sequel to CrossFire in partnership with Korean studio Smilegate. The first game is a massive hit, reaching 650 million registered users and over $1 billion in yearly revenue, according to Remedy.

It remains to be seen if Remedy will make a sequel to Quantum Break or Alan Wake. Quantum Break "sold really well," Microsoft marketing boss Aaron Greenberg said last year. At the same time, he made it sound like there won't be a sequel. "Just like every movie, not every game needs a sequel," he said.

On the subject of Alan Wake, Remedy has said time and again that it has ideas for a new game in the series, though it looks like it's not happening soon. Additionally, any announcements about a new Max Payne would come from Rockstar, as it owns the rights to the series.

As for P7, this could be the game that Remedy said last year was in the early stages of development. Remedy said at the time that it was pitching the game to publishers, though none were named outright.

What would you like to see Remedy make next? Let us know in the comments below!

A sequel to Alan Wake... Also, while I finished Quantum Break thinking that I wouldn't mind a sequel, I can't say I necessarily liked that game. It was okay, though a pretty big letdown considering it comes after the Max Payne games and Alan Wake. Alan Wake is one of my favorite games from last-gen I'd say; I've played it for at least a few hours every year since its release. I just played it last night actually, it's mainly because of Twin Peaks coming soon. I really liked what I saw of what they had in mind for Alan Wake 2, especially how the A.I. reacts.

@dylan35: Living in the Western Washington my whole life, I'd say that it doesn't exactly feel like Western Washington that much, but despite that, it does still feature a fantastic setting and is one of the many reasons why I love Alan Wake.

@dylan35: The game is set in WA, yeah. I'm just saying, I've been to most places in WA, and it doesn't really feel like WA to me. Sure, Alan Wake has things that WA has, but it's not assembled in such a way that reminds me of WA is all. I suppose it does depend on where you live, but being to most places in WA, I've just never said to myself 'hey, now I can see where they got the look for Alan Wake'.

I'm reading about it now because I've discussed it with others in the past, some have brought up Utah as a place that resembles it, but now I'm reading one of the biggest places for inspiration is a place in Oregon. Detroit, Oregon. Looking at images on Google, and it very much looks like Alan Wake's Bright Falls, Cauldron Lake, forestry area.

Most of all, it is similar to Twin Peaks' setting I suppose, which wasn't entirely filmed here, but in California. Only exterior shots (like the shots of Snoqualmie Falls) was filmed here. Dang... This makes me want to play more Alan Wake. Listening to the soundtrack now, though.

Edit - Also, I've never been to Newhalem here in WA (never even heard of it to be honest), but the power plant there looks a lot like the one you go to in Alan Wake.

@NTM23: If you like Twin Peaks so much, you should give Deadly Premonition a shot. That was a sure hit for me.

@edhc44: Coincidentally, I'm playing it now. I like it despite its aged-looking tech behind it. The game is way more akin to Twin Peaks than even Alan Wake. Many, many similarities.

@NTM23: Not sure how far you are into QB so I don't want to ruin any details for you. I was thinking they could do a prequel to Quantum Break based on some of the stuff you learn towards the end of the game. All I will say is that the prequel would feel a heck of a lot like Alan Wake in the QB universe.

@suicidesn0wman: Not sure what you mean. I bought Quantum Break on release and finished it then. It's been a while since I've played it; don't know where the confusion came in. I don't know how any of what was shown in Quantum Break can lead into what feels like Alan Wake other than the fact it's a Remedy game. Eh, either way, I'd much rather see an Alan Wake sequel than Quantum Break.

@NTM23: Must have misread your original comment, thought you hadn't beaten it yet. I think they could do a really awesome prequel where you play as Paul Serene as he tries to escape from the future, could also have levels where you're Beth Wilder trying to track Serene down. The start of the game would be similar to the last level from QB. Much of the game world would be stuttering or frozen, and as you progressed through the city from ground zero to the prototype your movement would disturb the shifters. I think the scene and sci-fi aspects from QB mixed with the shifters as the primary enemy force would create a very Alan Wake like vibe.

Ya, Alan Wake and Quantum Break dev. They didn't make one of the greatest games in video game history or anything bringing John Woo like combat to a video game. Nah they just made Alan Wake and Quantum Break.

Sigh.
