Alien: Isolation described as survival horror on Xbox Store

Game said to feature single-player and co-op play.

Details of Creative Assembly's in-development Alien game--presumed to be called Alien: Isolation--have popped up on the Xbox Games Store.

Notable information in the text is that the developer is describing the game as survival horror. Most modern entries in the series have veered closer to all-out action, and the latest information follows the common belief that the game will be modelled more after the original Alien film than its sequel Aliens.

“Discover the true meaning of fear in Alien: Isolation," reads the game's description spotted by internet sleuth lifelower, "a survival horror set in an atmosphere of constant dread and mortal danger."

"Fifteen years after the events of Alien, Ellen Ripley’s daughter, Amanda enters a desperate battle for survival, on a mission to unravel the truth behind her mother's disappearance. As Amanda, you will navigate through an increasingly volatile world as you find yourself confronted on all sides by a panicked, desperate population and an unpredictable, ruthless Alien."

"Underpowered and underprepared, you must scavenge resources, improvise solutions and use your wits, not just to succeed in your mission, but to simply stay alive.”

The listing goes on to mention that Alien: Isolation will feature both single-player and four-player co-operative play.

Screenshots of Alien: Isolation were leaked back in December.

Why is it so hard for an Alien based game to not try to rewrite something that is already great.

Having the game ben centered on Ripley's daughter completely disregards what we know of her from Aliens and the entire point of what Ripley is told in that film (that she grew old, lived a long life and died before Ripley evne made it back), that was the entire point for her character.

I mean Weyland Yutani didn't even know of the Xenomorphs really, Lv-246 was known, but it was only thought to be a barren rock and it wasn't even surveyed at the time the Nostromo landed on it because of the distress signal. Ash (the android) was placed on the ship to investigate the signal (Weyland Yutani knew about the signal prior to the crew finding it, as that't the sole reason they placed Ash aboard the ship). He knew the signal might have an alien origin and was tasked to bring something back. However they didn't know exactly what it was or the xenomorphs.

At least going by the lore set in Alien/Aliens, and not the crappy AVP movies or things.

I just think making Ripley's daughter out to be a cheap "Ripley" knock off lessens her character and makes it all feel very "been here done that" and white washes the meaning and impact of Ripley having simply missed out on her daughter living a long life while she was in hypersleep in space for all those years.

'm not judging the game yet, I do hope it will be good (and a lot better then Aliens: CM) but the whole "ripley's daughter" story angle just rubs me the wrong way.

The last game A:CM, was certainly a survival horror. You had to survive the horror of knowing you just paid $60 for that crap.

I honestly don't think you can do a survival horror game without a doing a safe room like in resident evil. When I play through dead space I don't give a crap if I died, the checkpoint is always one door away anyway. If dying just mean restarting from a checkpoint, taking away our guns and force us to playing hide and seek with the aliens won't make any difference and it will be as scary as metal gear. Alien infestation on the DS is probably the best alien game ever.

<< LINK REMOVED >>So true, checkpoints in survival horror games take away the survival element of the gameplay. Removing checkpoints so that the games play like old survival horror titles is the way to go.

in survival horror games making stress for dying is much more important than making the scary moments itself.

I think it's safe to say it will suck. It's like the Aliens license turns skilled developers into gibbering morons barely able to code Pong.

" Alien: Isolation will feature both single-player and four-player co-operative play." so you are not really isolated then...

@freedom01Yeah, the Aliens: Colonial Marines game was also supposed to be like the movie, but Aliens in that case. That it is survival horror is good, if they have the Alien movie as inspiration, but good survival horror is hard to accomplish. I hope for the best, but expect the worst.

I wonder...The futuristic setting is not my thing... But if it is third person I could try it out. But only 3 years after launch... Look at Rome 2, completely unplayable at launch, poorly optimized and full of problems...

Eh, Creative Assembly don't have a great track record with non-RTS games. I had an okay time with Vikings, though, so who knows, maybe they'll surprise us.
