AM Show 2001: Konami booth
Several arcade games implementing motion sensing technology are shown at Konami's booth.
TOKYO - Konami displayed more sequels in the Bemani series at the 39th annual Amusement Machine Show today, along with new games using the latest in motion-sensor technology. This technology has been implemented in such previous Konami games as Police 911 and Mocapboxing. Tsurugi, one such game shown, allows players to become a samurai. Holding a stick controller and swinging it in front of the screen equates to swinging the katana in the game. There is also a foot pedal at the bottom that's used for blocking and closing distances between the player and enemies. The game is expected to appear in Japanese arcades later this month.
The other title is a gun-shooting game based on the motion picture Jurassic Park III. The player's field of vision is limited to a lighted arch that only displays a specific section of the screen. So, if players want to look up in the game's 3D world, they'll have to aim higher, in effect moving the field of visibility up. Players can also dodge dinosaur attacks at certain times, though they need to move further to perform the dodges than in other titles using the same motion-sensor technology. Other titles shown were the sequel to Police 911, which has five new stages and four playable characters, and Boxing Mania, which is based on the Japanese manga Ashita No Joe and is currently in arcades.
