Now Playing: Best Things To Stream For December 2019 - Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video

One of the most popular fantasy series of all time, The Wheel of Time takes place in a world where magic exists but only some women are allowed to use it. The main story follows Moiraine, who is part of Aes Sedai, an all-female organization. She goes on a journey across the world with five others, and one of them is prophesied to be the person who will destroy or save humanity.

The showrunner will be Rafe Judkins (Agents of SHIELD), who will also executive produce alongside Larry Mondragon, Rick Selvage, Ted Field, Mike Weber, Darren Lemke, Marigo Kehoe, and Uta Briesewitz. The first two episodes of the series will be directed by Briesewitz. The Wheel of Time is a joint venture between Sony Pictures and Amazon Studios.

In his review of the first 10 episodes of this new season, GameSpot's Michael Rougeau said, "We won't know exactly how Season 4 will shake out--or whether we can fully embrace the show's trajectory on its new home. But from this vantage, things are looking very, very good for The Expanse."

As someone who read the books, and maybe I'll reiterate, as a female who read the books, I did a double take when I read that the main story follows Moraine, who was, well, kind of insignificant to the overall plot. If all you read was the plot summary on wikipedia, you might be lead to think the story is somehow about her, when it reality, her appearance at the story's opening is about as significant as, say, Gandalf in Lord of the Rings and her presence in the overall plot is just as sparse -- very one to one, it's like saying the main story of Lord of The Rings follows Gandalf -- and it just isn't true. She also dies in less than half way through the series.

When I read the book series, it became immediately clear rather quickly to the reader which of the three male protagonists is the Dragon, and it's confirmed by book's end. The narrative continues to sometimes follow the other characters, much in the same way Game of Thrones bounced between all the siblings. (Which was tedious to read if you didn't care about them.) Even so, it was a book series that teenage me just couldn't put down.

I'm looking forward to it, if it faithfully recreates the books. If it's some weird spin off about Moraine, I'm really not interested whatsoever.

@kyttias: Moraine? Really? That sounds pretty lame, actually. She was not that interesting a character.

@Barighm: I'm crossing my fingers and hoping that the author of the article is incorrect and that the main characters are the proper main characters.

@kyttias: Hmm...well, the Wiki entry shows casting for all of the core characters, so that's a good sign.
