Funcom has announced that it has reopened all cancelled accounts on Anarchy Online, its sci-fi online role-playing game. This gives all former players of the game a new 30-day free trial period during which they can access their former characters or create new ones. If players choose not to re-subscribe to the game, their accounts will be closed again after the 30-day trial period expires.

This reevaluation period is part of a larger marketing campaign to introduce new players to the game as well as reattract players that have played and left. Anarchy Online's four-year storyline began on October 30, and Funcom recently launched a redesigned Web site for the game. The company also started its Recruit a Friend program, in which players that successfully recruit a new player receive free play time.

Anarchy Online was launched in June 2001 to compete with other established online role-playing games such as EverQuest: The Shadows of Luclin, the latest expansion to Sony's role-playing game, is scheduled for release next month.
