Another Extraction Movie Is Coming, But Will It Be A Prequel Or A Sequel?
Avengers writer Joe Russo confirms he's returning for the sequel, and he's hopeful Chris Hemsworth will come back.
The new Chris Hemsworth action-thriller movie Extraction is getting another instalment. Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo, who wrote the first Extraction, has closed a deal with Netflix to make another film.
"We are in the formative stages of what the story can be," Russo told Deadline.
Whether or not Extraction 2 will be a sequel or a prequel remains to be seen. Anyone who has seen Extraction knows that it ends with a very ambiguous tease for what might happen next.
The report also states that Hemsworth is expected to return to reprise his role as Tyler Rake, with first-time director Sam Hargrave also eyed to come back.
While Joe Russo has closed a deal to write the next Extraction movie, Deadline reported that Hemsworth hasn't signed a contract yet. That won't happen until Russo finishes his script and shows it to the Thor actor. For what it's worth, Hemsworth said he's keen to return as Rake, so it seems likely to happen.
Extraction was seen by 90 million homes over its first four weeks to become the most-watched original movie on Netflix in history, according to the platform. The previous record-holder was the Mark Wahlberg movie Spenser Confidential (85 million), followed by 6 Underground (83 million), Bird Box (80 million), and Murder Mystery (73 million).
In other news, Hargrave recently spoke about the original ending for Extraction--and it was much more grim.
