Anthem Loot Just Got Better In New Update; Patch Notes Released

Finding high-tier loot should be a bit easier.

EA has announced the next update for Anthem is now live. This update patches Anthem's loot system--specifically buffing the drop rates for Masterwork and Legendary items. The full patch notes are listed on EA's website.

The new update has taken immediate effect on the server-side of Anthem so you don't have to actually download anything. If you boot up Anthem right now, the update should have already taken effect. Because of the update, drop rates for all Masterwork and Legendary items have been increased on Grandmaster 2 and Grandmaster 3 difficulties. Across all difficulties, Masterwork and Legendary items now have a higher chance of dropping from Anthem's harder enemies--which includes Legendary and Epic Titans, Legendary Furies, Legendary Acid Ursixes, and Legendary Luminary Elders.

This new update comes out after BioWare community manager Jesse Anderson put together a lengthy response to a Reddit post that expressed concerns with Anthem. "All I'll say on this is that Anthem is here to stay. Do we have a lot of work to do to fix parts of the game? Yes, and the team is committed to making improvements and releasing new content," Anderson wrote. Anthem did not have the smoothest launch--releasing to mediocre review scores. BioWare even implemented a patch that accidentally fixed a bug that players wanted to stay in the game. However, BioWare seems to be taking most of the criticism in stride, and has repeatedly released follow-up hotfixes and large scale patches for the game in response to community complaints--which Anderson also pointed out in his Reddit post.

"For feedback, we've made a large number of changes based on what players have told us. Not wanting to run to the Forge every time to launch an expedition? We added the ability to launch anywhere in Fort Tarsis, that was because of player feedback. Wanted to visually see loot drop from bosses in Strongholds? Added because of player feedback," Anderson wrote. "If you are talking about feedback on loot in general...I've already said that the team is discussing and that more will be likely be shared in the coming days. I know everyone wants to know when, but I don't have that answer." He continued, "Like Chad Robertson said in a tweet, we aren't happy with where loot is either, so know that it's high on our priority list."

In our Anthem review, Kallie Plagge gave the game a 6/10, writing, "Anthem has good ideas, but it struggles significantly with the execution. It's a co-op game that works best with no one talking; it buries genuinely interesting character moments and puts its most incomprehensible story bits at the forefront; its combat is exciting until you get to the boss fights and find your wings have been clipped. Even the simple, exhilarating act of flying is frequently interrupted by the limitations of your javelin, and you never quite shake that feeling of disappointment--of knowing, throughout the good parts of Anthem, that you'll inevitably come crashing back down."

These guys are pathetic. If you know that your game is far from finished, why release it? How does it make him look if that guy now says "We know we have a lot of things to fix"? They knew this before they launched the game and who knows, if they'd taken another half year or so the game might have turned out halfway decent, at least without all those issues. But now the damage is done and the game will be abandoned soon, no matter what they might be saying now.

Seeing stuff like this over and over again really makes me wonder what kind of morons are responsible for such big projects at huge companies like EA. Anyone with a brain should have learned by now what happens if you release mediocre games in an unfinished state, and yet doing so still seems more preferable to the CEOs than to spend a few more months polishing them. The result is always the same.

And it was for nothing as it was proven the loot you have is basically useless.

Ultimately here's the problem; GAAS does not work. Not only does it insult gamers, those that stick with it because "it's good enough now, it shows promise" or "it'll get better" are bringing this hobby down faster than EA and Activision can pump out shitty games. No actual gamer wants to play an unfinished game and wait for it to get better. The fact that they mentioned 90 day road map before launch should have been enough for every single gamer to drop their purchase altogether. Most of them are saying "Division 2 is here"....how about just stop? You're trading one bullshit marketing gimmick for another, or do you not remember Division? How about Destiny to Destiny 2? Millions told you to stay away from Destiny 2 hoping you'd have learned your lesson. Instead, you fell for the trap. Sea of Thieves, NMS, Destiny/2, Division/2, Anthem, and every game like it should be dead. It caters to the lowest of intelligence ( aside from battle royale like Apex and the like), looks you in the face and says "I'm going to rip you off by giving you half a game for $60, then give you the other half a year later while everyone else can get it at $20 and you'll love it", and offers nothing of value to an actual gamer.

Why do you keep buying it? "You don't like it, but others do, it isn't affecting you."...Except it is. It's bringing this hobby down more and more each day. Loot boxes are littered throughout nearly every game now thanks to you same spineless consumers. Stop buying well known shitty games just because you can "have fun with it". There are thousands of games that you can spend your time on instead of this trash, so look past the ooh shiny and wisen up. Are you really so shallow and impatient that you must play a factually terrible game ( in every aspect) and bring down your hobby?

I give up, the gamers of today ( including my generation) are so jaded. Care for nothing but shallow multiplayer experiences and graphics. No longer does the game have to have meaningful content, fundamental gameplay, an engaging story, or even an endgame ( not the bullshit definition we know of today), no, just throw online only co-op/multiplayer on the package and say it runs at 4k/60 and they'll flock to it in droves regardless of how plump and moist of a turd it is.

@reznik00: Why do you care what other people spend their time and money on? You wrote all of that to say you don’t like multiplayer games. Good for you! So like...why are you here commenting on a multiplayer game’s article?

Get a life bro. Seriously.

@Baconstrip78: I don't think you got his point. It has nothing to do with him not liking multiplayer games. It's the whole "games as a service" garbage, the unfinished products rushed out the door, and a lot of these games have a terrible narrative.

If people keep buying into unfinished products (not just Anthem) than things will keep getting worse, not better.

@prince__vlad:

Anthem is pretty good are you stating it’s crap because you’ve played it - or because you assume it’s terrible based on reviews

Actually, this update broke the loot system further. Due to how the scaling system now works, the most powerful thing you can do in Anthem is wear one piece of your highest powered gear, doesn't matter what it is, and nothing else but Lv.1s. You'll be a glass cannon, but you'll kill things so quickly you won't notice unless you're completely overwhelmed.

@Barighm: You’re not wrong that this is an issue, but it has nothing to do with this loot update. The issue you’re talking about already existed.
