AOC Is Playing Animal Crossing And She Could Visit Your Island

US Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez invited her followers on Twitter to DM her Dodo codes.

United States Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has joined the Animal Crossing: New Horizons train. In a tweet, she said she is very new to the game, but wanted to visit random people's islands and leave notes on their bulletin boards. She then opened her DMs briefly to receive Dodo codes from followers. Now that she has the game, there is a chance you could have a sitting congressperson visit your own island.

The Congresswoman initially tweeted that she was opening her DMs for four minutes, but in a reply, she said that she got enough DMs that her app crashed after only one minute. She also said that opening her DMs (albeit briefly) went better than expected.

"Honestly never in my life did I think opening my DMs would grant me faith in humanity but the brief window actually resulted in a lot of these messages being very wholesome," she wrote in a follow-up tweet. "People are asking for surprise visits to their spouse's islands!! This is the love everyone deserves[.]"

She has subsequently shared some glimpses of her trips to other players' islands and even expressed an interest in appearing on Star Wars writer Gary Whitta's Animal Crossing show, Animal Talking.

Animal Crossing is a wholesome game, and it's certainly good for bringing people together. Ocasio-Cortez, who has previously gotten the attention of video game fans for appearing on hbomberguy's charity stream at the beginning of 2019 and confirming that she plays League of Legends, isn't the only public figure to play with fans and/or followers; Elijah Wood visited someone's Animal Crossing: New Horizons island to sell turnips, and he was apparently very lovely.

If you, too, are a beginner to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, be sure to read our guide to what you should do on your first day. We also have a complete list of every fish in the game as well as every bug, how to catch them, how much they sell for, and more.

She should just go back to work... oh wait, no she shouldn't. Keep playing Animal Crossing, Ms. "politician". That'll keep you away from spreading nonsense.

This Lady is far and away the most impressive political person I have seen in my 45 years alive.

@jakebullet: "Most impressive political person". Lol. I would suspect that without googling her, you don't even know her job title.

Not sure what anybody expected to happen in the comments of an article like this, but here's a nice quote from the GameSpot Community Code of Conduct:

Can I talk about politics?

Yes, but we expect you to follow the Community Code of Conduct. Some specific examples of things that are not allowed in political discussions include:

  • Harassing users about their political preference.
  • Offensive stereotypes/generalizations about political groups.

@Spartan_418: The staff is who I was talking about. Mods can’t close comments sections or I’d have closed this one already.

That said, users are still responsible for what they post.

@dragonsama: So because she plays Animal Crossing, you think she'd be a good President? I suppose anything's possible now days, but personally I don't think her extreme left policies would fare well for the country.
